    Ultimatum for Hatton

British brawler Ricky Hatton isn’t as marketable as he insists he is, even in his homeland.
That’s the word from a boxing expert, who declined to be identified, in analyzing if a 50-50 split is a fair deal as negotiations for a fight between Hatton and Manny Pacquiao are bogging down because of a numbers disagreement.

Hatton’s group is insisting on a 50-50 split on all revenues generated by the proposed fight in Las Vegas on May 2. Pacquiao’s position is 60-40 in his favor.

“Hatton sells depending on his opponent,” said the expert. “When he fought (Paul) Malignaggi, the fight sold only anywhere between 70,000 to 200,000 pay-per-view hits in the UK compared to nearly a million in the (Floyd) Mayweather fight. That shows you even the English fans aren’t too hot on Hatton alone. They’ll buy only if Hatton’s opponent is a big name like Mayweather. So Hatton needs Pacquiao to draw even in the UK.”

Apparently, Top Rank chairman Bob Arum committed the 50-50 split to Hatton without consulting Pacquiao. Arum is now in a bind because Pacquiao is standing firm on 60-40. Hatton’s camp was made to understand that Pacquiao had approved the 50-50 split and is now up in arms after finding out the Filipino is holding out for 60-40.

In the US, the Hatton-Malignaggi fight brought in only 175,000 to 200,000-way below the pay-per-view figures that Pacquiao generates, whomever he fights. Against Oscar de la Hoya last November, Pacquiao drew over a million subscribers.

“The figures will show that it’s Pacquiao who brings in the money, not Hatton,” said the expert. “Under the circumstances, it’s inconceivable for a 50-50 split because that would be totally unfair to Pacquiao.”

Arum gave Pacquiao a deadline to agree to terms this week but the likelihood is there will be no signing unless Hatton gives in.

“It’s all up to Hatton,” said the expert. “Pacquiao will bring in the dollars. Hatton should know that. Nobody else out there can push the pay-per-view numbers higher than Manny.”

Pacquiao said he has given the Hatton camp up to Feb. 1 to come to terms. If there is no agreement, he said he wouldn’t be interested to fight Hatton anymore, now or in the future.

Meanwhile, lawyer Franklin (Jeng) Gacal said he will try to convince Pacquiao to accept a compromise split but the sharing must be a “substantial movement” from 50-50.

“This involves all income,” said Gacal who is in constant contact with Arum. “As for the guaranteed purses, my lips are sealed. We only want the best deal for Manny.”

Gacal said Pacquiao will definitely not fight Hatton on a 50-50 split. “A substantial movement will help me convince him,” he added. Gacal’s hint opened the door for a compromise settlement but it was made clear that unless Pacquiao has a larger share than Hatton, the fight is off.

Pacquiao said if Hatton refuses to budge, he will look for another opponent to fill the May 2 slot.

Asked if Floyd Mayweather Jr. could be a possible replacement, Pacquiao replied, “maybe.”

How can Hatton ask for a bigger slice of the pie if he is not that marketable as he thinks he is.

He deserves at least 50% because he's risking his belt, Pac isn't!

This is the true gauge how marketable hatton is in the UK. As I've said before it takes two to tango.

70,000? The sport of boxing is waaaaay too popular in the UK for that to even be possible. :huh Shitty PPV numbers by US standards are better than that. Any chance that's complete horse****? Yeah. Eh. Um.

Not a very good "expert". The guy is just picking numbers that suit his arguement. Yes Manny Oscar did a million buys in the US, that's huge.
Floyd Ricky did a million in the UK, a much smaller country so obviously Ricky can draw more fans per square mile.
:patsch I can pick numbers to suit my argument aswell.

His ass was Knocked out last time he challenge the p4p#1 and won 1 rd in the process. He is lucky to be getting another shot at it or even be considered for it. The only reason he is getting this shot is because Pac cant make 35 anymore. Pac is going up in weight, just stopped DLH and is the best in the sport. He deserves 60%.

bullshitt! obviously malignaggi isn`t much of a draw! hatton sold that fight on his own jst b4 xmas! still descent numbers considering! + hatton is more marketable in the usa than manny, also without hatton-top rank has a deal with setanta sports(subscription.. ie not ppv like sky tv)
to add to that hatton would bring at least 20000 to vegas(big impact on local economy)
even a fight with mayweather wouldn`t generate as much cash as hatton!!!
the only guy who can(or could) is delahoya and that aint happenin mate!!
paquiauo might be a better fighter but hatton is "box office" !! fact!
how many fans would manny (or floyd jnr)bring? hatton would guarentee at least 2-3m ppv at £15 each & thats jst in the uk! but there`d b no ppv without hatton!! hatton is a liscence 2 print money!!
no disrespect but the filipino`s aint payin 4 any fight!!
manny always does this anyway! its jst the way they do things in se asia! even at 50/50 its still the biggest payday manny`s had oir ever will have!
this is all obviouse **** anyway! if i have to explain then you dont understand the way boxing works!!! clue up wee sacks!!!

Aren't you even wondering why the PPV figure for this fight was not published until now. Haven't you thought that maybe the PPV buys were too low which is the reason why it was not posted?

Now you're trying to attack the author's credibility wherein you don't even know him personally or if he already had an instance where he just made up some stories in the past.

If hatton is more marketable than manny in the US, then why are his fights in US not in PPV except for the floyd fight? His fight against malignaggi was not even sold out in terms of the live gate sales.

    poorly written trash

compare pac sales vs an opponent of malignaggi class and i bet you will get lower revenue. how many ppv sales did the diaz fight do? **** all is the answer.

pac draws less money, thats a fact. hoya was the draw in their fight not pac.
