If Witter is a nobody then Hatton too is a nobody. Only time he has faced a prime fighter and he gets his ass whooped big time.

In terms of fanbase, american exposure, general public popularty, record, and earnings then Witter is a nobody compared to Hatton.

When Witter faced his best opponent in Judah he fought like a coward and lost..and we all know Judah turned into a stepping stone for elite fighters.

Hatton lost to p4p 1 Mayweather....

I love Cotto as a fighter but PBF would beat him right now. PBF has beaten the very best in every division from 130 to 147 pounds. He is in the last phase of his career and really has nothing left to prove so he will take the biggest money fights period. He will fight Cotto if he is paid $20 million dollars like he is getting to take on the Big Show in the WWE. Unfortunately Hatton and ODLH fights generate more box office revenue than Cotto at this point in time hence I cannot see a Cotto versus PBF contest until late 2009 at the earliest. The later the contest the better for Cotto's chances.

    http://www.sportinglife.com/boxing/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=boxing/08/03/28/BOXING_Hatton_Lazcano.html

Ricky Hatton insists defeat by Floyd Mayweather has left him determined to silence the critics that have surfaced since his setback in Las Vegas.

Hatton faces Juan Lazcano at the City of Manchester Stadium on May 24 eager to register an immediate return to winning ways following his 10th-round knockout last December.

Discussion with Mayweather's camp over a rematch in front of a 100,000 crowd at Wembley have already begun with spring next year highlighted as a possible window.

But Hatton must first dispatch Lazcano and has no shortage of motivation to dismantle the Mexico-born Californian.

"Losing has only made me more determined to come back and prove people wrong," he said.

"When you have the first loss of your career, and a knockout loss at that, the knives come out.

"People have said I've had a lot of tough fights and too many fights. They've said I'm not the fighter I was.

"Boxing is nice and easy when you're winning but when you lose you find out what sort of boxer and man you are.

"Champions become great champions by overcoming obstacles, they don't have everything their own way. That's the position I'm in.

"I'm not saying I needed a kick up the backside but sometimes once you've been beaten after having everything your own way you come back with more fire in your belly."

Losing to Mayweather may have left Hatton with regrets that only a rematch can address, but it has failed to diminish his popularity among his adoring Manchester public.

Only 4,000 tickets remain for his clash with Lazcano after 51,000 were snapped up within five days of being made available.

It is a staggering response that has overwhelmed the modest 29-year-old.

"I went to the Nigel Benn v Chris Eubank fight at Old Trafford in 1993 and there were over 42,000 people there," he said.

"I was watching two of my idols and to think that the number of tickets I've sold for Lazcano has surpassed that makes me chuckle at times."

Victory over Lazcano would be the first tentative step to setting up the return against Mayweather that Hatton craves.

And the Mancunian's dream edged closer after Golden Boy promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer claimed he has received a positive response from Mayweather's camp over a second meeting.

"It's very likely that Floyd will come over next spring. Floyd and his manager Al Hayman are very serious about it," said Schaefer.

"The first fight was great and while Floyd would have to get past Oscar de la Hoya on September 20 first, he knows that Ricky has talked about the referee.

"He wants to show that he will repeat what happened the first time. That's his motivation."

Blowing his own trumpet a bit here I think. A disgrace that a fight with Lazcano has sold that many tickets. Alot of useless football fans.

All hatton bloody does is blow his own trumpet.

Hatton has to fight Junior Witter. Everyone loved Nigel Benn when he was boxing, but now he has stopped its only the boxing fans that talk about him. If hatton never fights Witter, he will never hear the end of it. Imagine if Benn has not fought Eubank??

Apparently at yesterdays press confrence as soon as witters name was mentioned they changed the subject very quickly.

I am wondering is the the most pressure there has been for a Hatton vs Witter fight???

Good point that first thing you mentioned. I agree.

Yes. Witter - Hatton is hotter now than ever now that Junior is WBC champ got a few names on his record and of course is regarded as the number 1 contender at 140.

Hatton's complaints are laughable, he's a dirty fighter who lost a dirty fight. Hatton's whole career has been hometown-reffed

In terms of boxing ability Hatton is a limited fighter who has stretched his talents beyond his actual ability through media hype.

Here we go with the Zab thing. Witter came in at a few days notice. Could Hatton come in at a few days notice against a top opponent, make the weight and go 12 rounds ? NO the fat Hatton stands no chance.

Also Zab would beat Hatton within 8 rounds.

What has Witter done to deserve a fight with Hatton? Except nothing.

So after Hatton cleans up light welter weight he moves up to fight Mayweather again in a rematch at Wembly. Sounds good.

Oh right so being WBC champ is nothing now is it.

He also has a fair few decent names on his record. Wba title holder, Corley, Ndou and Harris.

So he has did nothing to warrant a match with the current belt holder at 140 has he not? Despite the fact that he is pretty much unanimously regarded as the number 1 contender in that division?

Please don't sprout such shite ever again.

Hatton- Mayweather 2? I would rather watch Amir Khan in a final eiminator. Hatton will NEVER beat Floyd and I don't like the idea if him getting another hiding.
