it is clear that hatton was outworked, outsmarted and outpowered against mayweather in the early hours of sunday morning. whether it is regarded as an excuse or not, Hatton is clearly not comfortable at welterweight, yes it was his choice to fight at welter weight but if the fight had been at junior welterweight would it have been different? Hatton seems a completely different fighter when at junior welterweight. If the great floyd mayweather is really so great maybe a second fight should be staged at junior welter. anyone agree it would be different?

No; Mayweather began hid career at 130 so I would say physically he was the smaller fighter.

Seven pounds is not going to make much if any difference. Hatton was a bit tactically naive at the end, giving Mayweather too little respect and paying the price.

If he was a bit more circumspect he could of gone the distance, but probably would have lost a fairly easy decision. So Hatton could argue he was in a catch 22 situation and at least with his tactics he might of been able to land the punch to change the fight, even if that was unlikely.

I see little point at the moment for a rematch, maybe in due course that situation will change, but personally I would like to see Hatton retire, he has done all he can IMO and can be very proud of his career.

Mayweather was clearly alot bigger than Hatton, he is not the smaller fighter despite starting at a smaller weight.

That said, Hatton ain't beating him at any weight.

If the fight was held at Junior Welter in England with a neutral ref it might be a different outcome.
Hatton would fight more inteligently than he did on Sunday morning. I doubt he would be as nervous and therefore he would'nt expend as much energy before the first bell rings.

But lets not take anything away from Mayweather who is rightfully acknoweldged as the best in the world and maybe one of the best ever.

Floyd has that elusive ability of finding a way to win. I would'nt rule out that he would win a rematch even if the advantages he enjoyed in Vegas were in hattons favour next time.

What's the point? Floyd will just be ~147 at fight not like he was last time and Hatton will be a bit above 140lbs and get his ass handed by him again.

Mayweather was taller, but looking at the tale of the tape, Hatton physically had the advantage over Mayweather going in.

I keep hearing people say Hatton should have boxed more shrewdly and held out for a points defeat rather than be knocked out so brutally.

However having watched many Hatton fights I can't recall an occasion where he didn't chase his opponent down. Hatton doesn't really do patient boxing, perhaps the Tackie and Urango fights are the best examples of him showing patience but this was against Floyd Mayweather!

Had he sat back Floyd surely would have attacked regardless. He wanted this fight to be a showcase of his skill and also to prove he could still knockout elite opponents.

With regards to original question I feel Mayweather still beats Hatton handily at light welter. He is simply on another level.

He was only tactile in the Tackie and Urango fight because he got hurt.He did the same vs Magee.None of those aforementioned fighters were able to capitalise on him getting hurt.Floyd obviously was.

I'm going to be perfectly honest. 140 lb. Floyd would make that ass whoopin Ricky endured on Sataurday look like a walk in the park. Ricky wouldn't make it past the 6th round. At 140, Mayweather was faster, and packed a bigger punch. Do you guys realize that he never lost 1 round in his 3 fights at 140? His only fight at that weight where he didn't score multiple KD's was against Gatti. Trust me, Hatton gets beat much worse at 140.

Weight is immaterial. If the fight was at 180 Hatton would still get beat.Floyd is simply a better fighter than him.I do agree though at the lighter weights it could have been even more devastating. As Floyd at 130 was insanely fast. His speed vs Corrales when they fought was exceptional.Iv never seen any current fighter move that quick other than Shane at 135.

I agree. It would have been much worse at 140.

Yup , I put hatton lost squarely on the shoulder of the Floyd haters, No doubt Hatton had been reading there bull **** , that he was the stronger fighter , and that the way to beat floyd is pressure, pressure, pressure, well guess what ? Hatton was not stronger the Floyd , Floyd was the better fighter on the inside , and coming forward on Floyd got Hatton KTFO!!!

Ricky should write them all a thank you letter for the truck load of BS

Rubbish the guy is the best at 140,why retire?.
It's not as if he really had a great chance against Mayweather in his backyard at 147,it would be like Pavlik coming to UK and fighting Calzaghe,he is not gonna win but dont mean he should retire when he got KO'ed
