No disrespect to Billy Graham, Graham has done a grade-A job training Hatton to the best of his knowledge but Ricky needs some head movement to go with his constant pressure style ala Cus, DeMato; adoptive father and trainer of Mike Tyson. You can see massive similarities between Hatton and Tyson. Hatton may be more of a body puncher and Tyson a head but the principles of their style (Come forwards pressure) are the same except Tyson could weave Hatton simply cannot or hasn't been trained too so if he rematches Mayweather it's going to be a repeat of the last match hence why Floyd is so so keen on a rematch $30,000,000+ for check hooking? Yes please! Hatton needs a trainer (or Graham a co-trainer) like Cus (Who is daly no loonger with us) who can teach Hatton how to weave and close gaps better or he will simply never become a legend he *could* become; that much is evident after yesterday.
He needs to tighten up his defence in general, he's horrible exposed when he throws left hooks especially. Head movement really isn't that hard to implement though it's more habit than skill, anyone can do it it's just a case of keeping it up.
Hatton was trying to impress those ringside and the US audience. I mean c`mon now does he really think his that quick enough to lead with a left hook? Ricky is what he is. And thats nothing more than a successful crude brawler.
It's too late in the day to start making changes to Hatton in my view. I'm sure they've looked at things, but he falls back into the same bad habits. It is very difficult to make wholesale changes to a style you've used all your boxing life Graham serves his purpose, he is an excellent fitness trainer
Theres no need to change him. His style has served him extraordinarily well taking into account his limited competition. If Hatton after 44 fights cant learn to put them together off the jab and parry and slip a shot once in a while his not going to learn now.
he's just fine with body bag merchant Graham. Hatton is a limited brawler and if he didn't leanr lessons from the Mayweather fight he will never learn. Lazano had him teetering twice and the ref saves him in the 10th.
Exactly. People were always certain the day would come when Arturo Gatti would suddenly develop a defense and become some sort of P4P juggernaut. Some guys are what they are..and trying to change that will do more harm than good in the long run.
Hmmm this kind of coincides with the Gamboa debate whether or not he will eventually be able to keep his hands up or not huh ? I smell a new Gamboa thread coming on !!!
