This might be a load of bull but according to a combination of FW's The Sun column and postings on the Cable Forum's Boxnation on Virgin thread there are movements towards Hatton Promotions signing a three fight deal with ITV with Ricky as the main attraction. Couple this with Hatton Promotions Booking November and January dates at the MEN and Ricky's likely comeback, there may be something in this.
Hatton could get his stable on itv4 and have his come back fights on the main channel, seems as likely a home for his stable as any but it was not that long ago they dumped Hennesey but maby Hattons come back fights are a big carrot for itv.
I really don't want to get too excited about this news.............. but................ If true it would be absolutely fantastic for boxing. I'm sure the ratings would be fantastic, you only have to look at the numbers Fury has been getting. We seriously need to get boxing back on mainstream terrestrial TV on a regular basis, Channel 5's coverage is pretty good, but the shows are a bit short (about an hour a time) and they are just not regular enough. I really liked the old format on ITV, the main event and maybe the main support on ITV 1 and then the undercard on ITV 4, it was great. Fingers and toes crossed! :hey
He's on the cover of this weeks boxing news so try their website for a pic!?! I'm torn by this story there's a bit of me that doesnt want him to come back but as one of my favourite fighters I would defo go and watch him!!
Very good news if this is true. Lesser fights would be on ITV4 but any type of free to air boxing should be welcomed.
If ITV can have probs the most expensive british fighter on their channel, why did they pull it in the first place?
In 1995 it was a case of money with Frank and with the Amir Khan contract it was a case of money with Frank. ITV is doing very well at the moment so they may be able to shoehorn some boxing late on a Saturday night. Who would do commentary though? Everyone half decent seems to be taken bar Woodhall.
