I dont think he is scared of the man but he is scared of losing helping to elevate Witter on to the big stage and even more worryingly, losing some of his fanbase to Witter.

Could you imagine Cotto vs Witter and the commemntators saying "Maybe we followed the wrong man in Hatton." Hatton would almost kill himself.

That's how boxing works. If you want someone to fight you you normally slag them off. Listen to all the nonsense Calzaghe has been talking about Hopkins. Now the fight is being made.

Imagine if Tszyu hadn't agreed to fight Hatton! Hatton would have disrespected him publically until he had agreed to fight. That's how it works. Hatton knows this very well (that's how he managed to get a shot at Mayweather).
