Dawson or Froch. It is utter codswallop that the former couldn't draw IMO. FFS Manfredo sold out the Millenium Stadium!

Just more agenda **** from Bunce that one. Im a huge JC fan, but that seemed to come off to me as though he was trying to excuse Joe for not fighting him on the grounds that he wasn't worthy....as he simply cannot be classified as a draw.

Nonsense. JC doesn't need to fight on, but if he does, Dawson is a hugely worthy opponent and I'm sure Joe would be paid handsomely for his troubles.

Yeah, but Manfredo was a star of 'The Contender' - that qualifies him ahead of top class fighters such as the aforementioned Froch and Dawson, didn't you know?

I recall an article in BM, interviewing Jeff Wald, a guy who was a prominent figure - and he tried to claim that the reason that Millenium was full that night, and the MEN for the Lacy fight wasn't, was that Manfredo was a big attraction.

Forget the fact that one fight was at 2am in the morning in Manchester, the other was UK prime time in Calzaghe's home town (pretty much).

Its sad but true, ALL my mates had heard of Manfredo and thought he had a decent chance against Calzaghe. None had heard of Lacy.

    I'll second that.

Lots of casual fans like the entertainment factor of the Contender series, especially the first one. They'd rather an hour of that with dramatised highlights of a fight at the end, to watching a fight from America involving up and coming fighters who they have not yet heard of.

    Sad but true.

Does seem odd that a top class prospect like Tavoris Cloud has completely slipped under the radar - the way he put Gonzalez away was frightening.

OK JCG was past his best, but still.......

I still think Calzaghe - Dawson would sell out in Wales no problem...

I think Calzaghe could fight me and it would sell out - he needs to face a young, hungry fighter rather than another Jones type just looking to go the distance.

Yes, it will your spot on.

The 'Dawson isn't a draw' line is a strange one.

Thats exactly what I'm saying :patsch, like a lot of blokes they are football fans who watch a bit of boxing when the "big fights" are on TV. That type of crowd had heard of Manfredo through the Contender and thought he was a good fighter and would give Calzaghe a good fight. How do you think they got a 35,000+ gate in Cardiff for that fight?

I didn't feel the need to laugh at them though, I just explained the situation and told a couple save their money and not take the 4/1 that was being offered on Manfredo.
