20 experts were asked who they thought would win. Final Tally: PACQUIAO 17 - HATTON 3 Hatton's three votes: Steve Bunce (Setanta Sports) Mark Collings (Esquire UK) Stuart Brennan (Manchester Evening News) Fighters asked (this is interesting): Juan Lazcano (fought Hatton) - Pac late stoppage or convincing decision. Paulie Malignaggi (fought Hatton) - Pacquiao Luis Collazo (fought Hatton) - Pac late stoppage David Diaz (fought Pac) - Pac stoppage Pretty damning verdict on Hatton's chances. Seems to be three groups here: 1. British press (split) 2. American press (Pac all the way) 3. Fighters (Pac all the way) **admitedly they are American based fighters. I think Boxing monthly did the same survey a while back, and the result was a lot tighter to call. Comments:think
In terms of the fighters..... Collazo still wants a rematch with Hatton Paulie is just a moaning ***** I'd be more tempted to listen to Lazcano and Diaz - Lazcano seemed like a decent guy in the run up to the fight, and is most qualified to say how Hatton has been looking (Paulie is still blaming his trainer). On the flipside, Diaz will be most likely to give an accurate opinion on Pacquiao.
You can pretty much ignore 2 out of the 3 that voted for Hatton. Ones a local, the other writes for a mens mag. Oh, and the other one is Steve Bunce. Make that 3 out of 3!!!! ;O)
i think that absurd. pacquiaos never been hit the way hattons going to hit him in this fight, also pac has been ko'd once before with a bodyshot, and hes stepping into the ring now with mr.bodyshot i think hatton will ko pac in the later rounds, although i wont be suprised if he even does it in the first half of the fight. Hatton will make a nice fine paste out of his ribs and internal organs
I wonder what the vote would have been prior to the Diaz fight? I'm convinced people are being too easily swayed by the Diaz and Oscar fights.
What's the split like on the Brit forum? For Froch-Taylor I'm quite surprised that a lot of people have gone for Froch. Only a handful have picked Taylor. However for Pac-DLH they did a similar thing in Ring Mag and all but two journos picked DLH IIRC.
There was one guy on the Brit forum that picked Pac against Oscar but I can't quite remember who. Perhaps he'll remind us (again) later???
Boxing Monthly survey..... Carl Froch - Hatton PTS Mick Hennessy - Pacquiao PTS Alex Arthur - Hatton KO Johnny Eames - Hatton KO John Ingle - Pacquiao Darren Barker - Pacquiao James Cook - Hatton KO Kevin Lueshing - Hatton Matthew Macklin - Hatton KO Paul Cook - Pacquiao PTS Brian Lawrence - Hatton Peter Swinney - Pacquiao KO Spencer Oliver - Pacquiao Frank Warren - Pacquiao KO Jon Thaxton - Hatton KO Jane Couch - Hatton KO Anthony Small - Pacquiao KO Rob McCracken - Pacquiao KO Chris Sanigar - Hatton PTS James DeGale - Hatton PTS Dominic Ingle - Pacquiao KO Colin McMillan - Hatton Duke McKenzie - Hatton PTS Brendan Ingle - Pacquiao Dave Coldwell - Hatton KO Alex Morrison - Pacquiao KO Enzo Calzaghe - Pacquiao KO Tommy Gilmour - Pacquiao PTS 14-14!
Duke McKenzie has gone with Hatton and he usually makes decent picks. He picked Hopkins to beat Calzaghe. The only Brit guy to do so I think. Shows that he's not biased. Some guys who really know their stuff have gone with Hatton there.
Most of them see it as a 50-50 affair. Rob McCracken launched a pretty scathing attack on Hatton. Here is his pick: ''Pacquiao, easy. Hatton's a fighter, Pacquiao is a box fighter. Hatton is good at what he does, but Mayweather exposed him at that elite, elite level. He's had his day. Malignaggi was useless. He may have a size advantage but I like Pacquiao's workrate. Manny's got tidier as he has got older and fights with smart aggression. I think he will stop him. Hatton's biggest weapon is the tickets he sells. If it weren't for that, they'd have chucked him in with Junior Witter five years ago and their stories could have been reversed''
