Just to preface this so no one gets heated halfway through this...pavlik will beat rubio...we all agree on that. but thinking about this fight got me thinking about ricky hatton's career arc including his fights and trainers.

hatton was unbeaten, probably started to drink the kool aid a little bit, had the same trainer his whole career, moved up in weight and got skull dragged all over the ring by a bigger, better boxer. hatton kept his trainer (despite many people's reservations), and took his next fight against a very game and in his prime fighter whom he still shoulda beat handily and didnt. he won but it was unimpressive. it was only then that he changed trainers and got a top shelf guy to train him and now he's back to form.....

HE WILL WIN...but does anyone think that it won't be a 3rd round KO and that maybe it will be an underwhelming win that will force him to finally party ways with jack loew and finally get a top shelf trainer. I almost hope this happens b/c i don't think he can improve any more with loew. he needs someone else just like hatton did

I watched the B-Hop fight the other day.

What the hell was Jack Loews advice about? Just kept telling him to do the same thing that obviously wasnt working. Surely anyone could see that.

Its a good possibility. Maybe he needs a switch.

You are basing your remarks on what partial bits of conversation HBO decided to air? In a fight where we know Kelly was not 100% physically? Two weight classes above where he should have been? Now that is the way for Pavlik to make his choice alright. :patsch

I have questions about Steward. I watched two fights where his fighters came into the ring way under conditioned. Pav/Tayor 1 and Lee/Vera.

I've always thought Pavlik was one dimensional and overrated but a change of trainer could only benefit him coz Loew is a prize ***** who's nowhere near as good as he thinks he is.

yeah yeah we all heard that he was on antibiotics...but the advice he was getting in his corner was terrible. the point was do you guys think a subpar win over rubio will finally force him to get a new trainer the same way a subpar win for hatton forced him to do the same

Manny is the most overrated trainer i know of in recent memory. Why so much faith is put in his services il never know.

I was going to stay out of this and probably should have. The elite of boxing's inner circle will gather here and render their opinion based on their vast personal experience with trainers and certainly give me the ass whooping I deserve for daring to try and insert a tiny bit of reasoning. :nut

I've noted his arrogant comments and disrespect to other fighters and trainers who have achieved far more in the sport than he has. I base my opinion upon this.

Taylor came into the second Pavlik fight in much better condition. I wonder if one of the reasons JT left him after that fight was Steward's asking Pavlik to take him on as trainer? What a **** move.

Hatton has a lot more talent than Pavlik and has more to work with. Hatton can box and brawl he also has superb footwork.

Pavlik is a plodder a banger but little else.

When Stewards fighter doesnt perform well he always bitches and blames it on the fighter. He did the same with JT. **** Manny.
