Hatton quote about being P4P #1

    Irrelevant. Ricky Hatton was soundly beaten by Mayweather at 147, and arguably lost to Collazo before that. At least I thought he did.

    If Ricky had defeated Mayweather, it would have meant that whoever was P4P #2 at that time, would have probably taken over.

    But has been fighting at 147 for most part, except for his last outting, which was against nobody worthy of mention.

    You think Hatton is the same size as Pacquiao? Perhaps how much they weigh on fight night, but Pacquiao has never fought at 140, and that is my point. Just because he weighs 140+ in his fights at lightweight, doesn't mean he can beat fighters that are actual light-welterweights.

    He's only ever fought twice at 147. He has said he is not big enough and will never fight at 147 again. Why does he have to fight much bigger guys at 147 to get credit. He is a small JW and has only ever fought 2 people shorter then him in 40 odd fights.

    if the future hatton has wins over, malignaggi, torres, bradley, Pac Man or oscar then he certainly must be in the top 10 but at the moment i wouldnt take hatton to be on top for much longer as he certainly looks to be on the demise

    Irrelevant? Given that my first post in the thread was a reply to your post commenting on the hypothetical situation where Hatton had beaten Mayweather, I fail to see how.

    So you answer that, if Hatton had beaten Mayweather, 'whoever was number two at the time' would have taken over. That would have been Pacquiao in most peoples eyes, no?

    So, I ask again, what if we were now in that situation - Paquiao as P4P number one, Hatton having beaten the previous number one - and Hatton now beat Pacquiao?

    Who then is number one if not Hatton?

    Your answers seem framed around a desire for Hatton not to be number one, rather than around objective reasoning.

    Everybody has lost to future ATG, and HOF Mayweather. Manny would have, imo. So what.

    I'm sure he could beat their skeletons at 140. Hatton is never fighting at 147 again, he is too small - just as those 3 are for middle weight. Nobody is asking those 3 to beat Pavlik and two other guys at middle weight.

    He''ll never get to #1 P4P fighting at 140 for the next 18 months but he got unfairly dropped out of the top 10 from number 3 after the Mayweather loss IMHO. I think with the right wins against the right opponents he can get to number 3-5 before he retires.

    Pauli no1 at 140, Cotto at a catch weight, and Pacman (especially if he beats Oscar at 147) should get him up there in the top 3. Him winning those fights is a different matter though.:D

    I think you're jumping to conclusions like the majority of posters here at ESB. I'm British, I have no reason to hate on Ricky Hatton. No agenda.

    If Hatton beat Mayweather, and then beat Pacquiao, he would probably be regarded as the consensus P4P #1. However, this is irrelevant to my thread altogether. Hatton didn't beat Mayweather, so Hatton would only be placed at the top (according to him) based on one win over a lightweight. So, I think I am correct, If Hatton beats Pacquiao or Hoya, he doesn't get to be P4P #1. Not in my eyes anyhow.

    Why don't posters actually read what they are responding too? If you look again, I clearly stated that if Hatton was to clear out 140lb, meaning he takes care of all the potential champions in the division, then he would get credit. Based on dominating at 140, he'd probably get back into the P4P 10, maybe even has high as 6-7. But, what I'm saying is, dominating at 140, such a weak division, would not make him P4P #1, in my eyes. Not when Marquez will be trying to clear out 135, Margarito and Williams clearing up at 147, etc.

    so basically from what i'm reading ...unless hatton is to go up to 175 and whoop everyone in site theres NO way he can ever be pound for pound 1 ..even if that ment beating THE number 1 guy in decemeber
