I think the sport needs 8 titles per weight to make unification easier.

They would if they stuck to their ranking system currently - which ranks the champion of other sanctioning bodies.

The other guy may have to vacate in order to take the fight - which may work sometimes but guys like Chris John and Joe Calzaghe wouldn't like it, as they love hiding behind belts.

One title per weight will do - **** unification fights. They are only any good because of the mess that the game is in now!

The three belt system works fine, Hopkins & Jones showed us that, it just needs us to ignore the other belts. Just pretend they don't exist, it's not difficult, any fight involving one is just a 12 round fight. Doesn't detract from the event it just means you're not watching a "world" title bout which most know they're not anyway.

jones? you sure that system worked out for him ok?

he was never the legit, one and only true LHW champ.

Decent point - but someone may come along and say they recoginse the IBF but not the WBO (certainly not me)

Tough one - having been a convert to boxing and being used to watching other sports both team and individual, I see no reason why there isn't a global governing body.

He was if you don't recognise the WBO :good

But yet there were IBA, WBF, B&Q and ICI belts around his waist at the time.

Or you could say DM gave up his right to be the true champ by ditching his WBA/IBF belts in favour of the easier defences supplied by the WBO. Depends how much credence you pay the mythical "linear" title everyone seems to love so much.

which won't happen. dan can downplay the WBO but DM was and still is viewed as the true linear champ of the time.

    Depends who you ask........

I suppose the fact that he was WBO champ is irrelevant - shame he chose to hide in his backyard as opposed to fighting the best fighters out there.

This is all subjective - can a guy 'sort of relinquish' his linear title by ducking/avoiding the best fighters or hiding behind a belt?

I personally like the linear title - but it would be good if some of the alphabets (if not all) merged to form one global body with univerally recoginsed champs - title rules one mando + one voluntary per year. Mando as first defence, voluntary can be a rematch.

    Idealistic I know.......

Jones' tanking of Johnson was better then anything DM managed. Jones was clearly division #1
