Hatton: Scottish fans should support local fighters as much as they do me!

Oh, come on...he could pick on a thousand and one subjects if that was the case, Boxers pensions, Children in Need, World Wildlife Fund...why choose Scottish boxing? Its one thing having a healthy amount of cynicism but to see an 'angle' involving Hatton and Witter in this subject is bordering on paranoid (or just Hatton hating for the sake of it).

Punch Promotions arn't a registered charity, if the support isn't coming out in Scotland for these fights then why should they (or anyone else) promote? just for that warm glow that the act of giving leaves you with?

You want him to have repeated the comments on Scotish boxing every couple of months just to make sure it couldn't be connected with anything else in his career. Just so a few haters and half-witted conspiracy theorists don't take 2 and 2 and get 6.7?

Just take the comments for what they are, an observation on Scottish boxing from a guy who goes to small hall shows around the country. Nothing more, nothing less and certainly nothing to do with Junior Witter.

People do promote in Scotland so there must be a living to be made doing it, I doubt whether its a market that a new comapny would want to try to muscle in on. Its small and I guess the promoters up there are already squeezing as much as they can out of the situation.

I do think Hatton is somewhat opportunistic when it comes to the media.

But yes, your right. I know what their trying to do, get people out to the boxing but as Maka already said, the bouts should be taking place perhaps in smaller arenas like Kelvinhall rather than ambitiously trying to sell out the Braehead or the SECC etc.

I like the fanbase we have in Scotland. They aren't drawn by any mass media coverage, or any overt marketing campaign they are there because they are boxing fans and fans of domestic level fights.

I don't really think its an issue to be honest.

    forget it..**** talk anyway.

i dont understand at which point does hatton backing scottish boxing turn into "look am ricky hatton arnt i great give me lots of money hatton hatton hatton"

and as for him not saying this stuff 2 or 3 years ago, he wasnt boxing the pbf's of the world then.

    whats the big deal?

if other big names in sport came out in support of teams and individuals and boosted gate numbers nothing would be said about it......in fact they'd get a pat on the back.

    but not ricky hatton.

Again, irrespective of what he earns or how much money he has, he's not a charity and I don't supose the existing promotors in Scotland would want him up there either.

As for being a PR exercise, have you any idea how much PR these comments will generate???? If he wanted boxing PR he'd get down an amatuer club for a photo oppurtunity, he's just giving an opinion thats all.

Oh, and repeatedly sticking a :deal at the end of a load of bollocks doesn't mean it isn't still bollocks.

I think he may have been genuine in what he said.

Call me selfish but I kind of want to keep the domestic fights the way they are with real boxing fanatics.

I really don't like some of the characters that Hatton draws to the sport.

Well maka, of course I like a good hostile atmosphere in areas of course!

But I also like to have discussion on the merits and drawbacks of each fighter with people that actually know what their talking about!

This is something that irks me about Hattons following. They ain't there for the love of the sport.

But yea again its subjective because ultimately the more punters that come through, the more money our favourite fighters get and more exposure in the media and what not.

So I suppose its selfish of me in that respect.

Theres a decent percentage who follow Hatton and know and love their boxing, I like to think I'm one of them. Its true that theres a larger percentage who are casual sports fans or just follow Hatton and arn't interested in boxing in general, that just comes with being popular and the appeal crossing over (and yes, they can be a pain in the arse).

Just don't tar all Hatton fans with the same brush, he ain't perfect and he should fight Witter but these comments on Scottish boxing are irrelevant to all that.
