I am pretty sure that if it came out as quoted or as written that was not the way Ricky intended it. This hatred of Hatton is tiring. He does not deserve it. Unlike some others I would always applaud Ricky for taking control of his own destiny to fight the best fighters of his era such as Tyzu, PBF and Pacman. For that alone we should be greatful.
"He's not just one of the greatest boxers of all time, he's one of the greatest men of all time." This I can't agree with, especially with the way he acted in the build up to the 'Thriller in Manilla'. Can someone please enlighten me as to why many people including Hatton (unless of course he's saying this purely for publicity reasons) see Ali as some form of messiah?
I think he meant Ali didnt want to meet a fellow boxer or go into a boxing gym while in a wheel chair, not just Ricky Hatton.
Should he have said; "Ali said 'I can't have me meet me in a wheelchair, ive got to walk in'". That doesnt really make sense does it?
?? What a plonker ! Maybe he could have said..."Ali said "I cant meet him in a wheelchair, i've got to walk in"" And why should Hatton think the walk was anything to do with hm and not a front for the British Press(at least) or the hundreds of fans that were there to winess him ?
Call it a stab in the dark but I would say that it's aimed at the social hand grenade known as Betty.
i think hatton was pretty chuffed to be honest with you,as i would have been. i don't think that picking his instinctive words apart is commendable on a boxing forum though, pretty anal in fact.think of what you would say in the heat of the moment?.:huh i know ,as we all do that hatton has had a slight ego problem over the last couple of years for varying reasons of which i am aware.but when you have spent your life in the trade and suddenly one of the most revered boxers lands on your doorstep, how do you react?,with respect like hatton did would be my choice. :good
Rhinocoote. Nice post mate. I'll take this on board and agree that maybe he was just caught up in the moment. I'd be buzzing personally but I wouldn't say that. I think he's just been talking that way for so long now he just says it instinctively now
at that quote. That is really something. Up there with his 'I'm as exciting as Duran and Chavez' routine
