Boxer Ricky Hatton’s show, due to take place in Bradford tonight, has been cancelled after he was admitted to hospital.

A statement from the production company said Mr Hatton was admitted to hospital this morning after being taken ill overnight.
"This has led to the emergency cancellation of all of this week’s shows," said the statement.
"Please keep your tickets and they will be valid for a replacement date as soon as Ricky is well enough to re-schedule the dates. We are hoping for September"

Doesn't sound like someone who is about to take a world title fight, does it....?

He needs to retire, and stick to it.

His bank balance is not the issue. It is his pride.

Funny, I would have suggested it was the other way around.

What are his career earnings again?

His pride hurts from two humiliating losses.

He's fighting on 'because his pride hurts'?

So edging out a couple of 'c' class fighters is going to make amends for the two brutal KO's?

He's fighting on because there is still money to be made.

His punch resistence is gone, his marketability at the top level is on the wane, and his career is in its death throws.

Fighting on is not about 'pride' or any other subjective emotion you wish to attach to something that is obviously a money making exercise, to milk his loyal fans one more time (at the least).

You are a cynic but a realist (in terms of most fighters) I like that.

If you could tell me his career earnings (must be approx $25million) then me personally would be calling it quits.

I dont know the man to make the call though!

He is in for a whole world of pain, if he fights on. And for very little reward compared to what he got for especially for the Mayweather and Pacman fights.

I would quit and not get hit....any more.

All jokes aside, what is actually wrong with Hatton?

Yeah, we don't really know why he would choose to fight on. But I find it difficult to accept its about anything other than money, I'm sure Ricky himself realise's he's at the end of the road physically, there isn't much more he can do in the ring.

A total guess from me would put his earnings somewhere in the range of £30 million ($55 USD). He's been packing large arenas for a long period of time, last home fight got 55,000 + so he'll have done alright in that respect.

Really? Hatton's career earnings must total £50m or so! He's certainly not short of a bob or two and could earn a perfectly good wedge from his stand-up shows. His grandkids will never have to work if they don't want to never mind him! I think it's exactly the opposite, it's very difficult for a fighter to look himself in the eye and say to himself "time to call it quits before you end up a stepping stone". As I have said all along whilst he's convinced he can still do it, he will fight on. Whilst he could probably still beeat a lot of world class fighters out there, unfortunately he probably will have to take a couple of losses to lesser guys to persuade him to eventually call it quites.
