Ricky Hatton says he is planning to have just three more bouts before retiring, starting with his fight against Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas on May 2.

    "If I can beat

, the world's best pound-for-pound fighter, that would be sensational," Hatton told Dom McGuinness, this afternoon, on Talksport, the talk radio station. "I would like to finish the year off fighting

Those three fights will see me to the end of my career. But I can't look at Marquez or Floyd Mayweather yet as I'm fighting Pacquiao. Let's get that out of the way."

Asked if he had ever been so close to his fighting weight so far ahead of a bout, Hatton said:

"No, I've never been as down on my weight. I'm now pretty much at the weight of 154lbs that I'll be on the night. I think Freddie Roach said in a couple of articles that 'Ricky will be heavier but he'll lose his speed.' For as long as I can remember fighting at 140lbs I have always got in the ring at 154lbs and as the fight gets nearer I'll get faster and sharper and more explosive. I'm 154lbs now and I didn't exactly look slow today [in training] did I?"

"Floyd [Mayweather Snr, Hatton's trainer] has brought my boxing ability back, got me using my jab and moving my head. When you think of the improvements in the Paulie Malignaggi fight - we were only together seven weeks and for the first two or three we had to get used to each other. From the first day Floyd came back here (to prepare for the Pacquiao fight) we have started from a higher platform. I am really excited by the performance I can produce."

No doubts if he beats Marquez and Pac, Hatton is P4P#1.

I wont miss him or his fans to be honest... but agree that IF he pulls off them 3 wins he WILL be p4p king.

Indeed. So he does know that he needs to beat JMM really, as well, to be P4P no1.

    Not knocking him...

If he beats Pac a fight with JMM would be a defence of Hattons p4p championship belt.

JMM has been at number 2 for so long it would be a mandatory.

i hoping he'd have a couple more after them really, fight the (hopefully still) unified champion at light welter (bradley/holt) and then khan

i guess he has bigger fish to fry than alphabet titlists though, but i wouldnt be surprised if he fought khan after mayweather in a domestic affair

I hope some people were tounge in cheek here.

How can Hatton even think he's pound for pound by beating Pac and JMM, two excellent fighters but who are both much smaller than him?

He will never ever be considered the pound for pound best because he simply is not good enough.

If he wants to be number 1 he has to beat a Cotto or a Mosley or PBF but thats never gonna happen.

pacquiao will finish him off and then the elite fighters won't be interested in his anymore. after he gets KO'd by pacquiao then he will have to do with fighting the likes of judah, torres and bradley and forget about marquez and mayweather.

I hope you're being tongue in cheek. Who exactly would be number one after Hatton had hypothetically beaten Pacquiao and Marquez (lets assume clear victories for the sake of clarity, no SD contentious verdicts...)?

The only possible contender for P4P#1 if Hatton was to beat Pac and Marquez is Pacquiao.

If Pacquiao can claim a big scalp after Hatton at say 135, then the loss to Hatton could be put down to weight and he'd have a shout at P4P#1 again.
