Ricky Hatton looks certain to return to the ring by the middle of 2010.
Hatton has just returned from a secret fact-finding trip to Australia, South Africa and Macao and has finally admitted that the urge to return to the ring is just too much for him to resist.
"I've not made my mind up for certain but it looks like I will fight again next year," said Hatton.
The Manchester boxer has not fought since losing to Manny Pacquiao in their May super-fight in Las Vegas. That ended in the second round and since that night Hatton has kept his family and his fans guessing about his plans.
"I've heard a lot and read a lot of speculation about my future and I have to admit there are some great fights out there," added Hatton.
"I've enjoyed my time off from fighting and the promoting has been brilliant. "It's not been all about the glory and we had Matthew [his brother] losing a controversial decision in a world title fight.
"I also had Matt Macklin win the European middleweight title and put himself in the mix for a world title.
"I will still be promoting shows and so far I've had three shows on Sky and I've got more dates in 2010.
"People told me that I would get the itch when I was at ringside at my own shows and they were right!" There is a long list of American fighters whose names have been linked with Hatton's return, including the great Oscar De La Hoya, but there is one name closer to home that seems to have captured the public's imagination.
During the last three months there has been endless talk of a massive domestic dust-up between Hatton and current WBA lightwelter champion Amir Khan. "A fight against Amir would be an enormous fight for everybody in the boxing business, but I would have to be one of the promoters," said Hatton.
"I know that Amir would take the fight and it is something that I have talked about - it's a long way off, but it could happen.
"Amir has his own promotional company now and that is all that would be needed to make that fight happen."
It is known that there is a split inside the Hatton Empire between those that want him to return and those that want him to stay on the safe side of the ropes.

But no way can I see him skipping WW to campaign at LMW. Hatton would lose the assets he used to such great effect in his LWW pomp. He doesn't need to be taking punches from a LMW, even if that LMW is a relative powder puff merchant like Foreman.

 

Thats certainly one "P-4-P" title he has an excellent chance of winning.
