Cheers :good (P.S Big Berbatov fan, good goalscorer but not an out and out goal getter in the mould of some one like say Jimmy Greaves or as a more modern example, Alan Shearer).
Fergie seems to disagree. That pair just does not get enough goals, Ronaldo got them out of the **** big time last season.
From last year? Drogba/ Anelka, Berbatov/Keane, Adebayor/ Eduardo, Torres/ anyone. The front two need to score goals either individually or as a pair, Rooney and Tevez were doing neither esp. when you consider how dominant Utd are in a lot of matches.
Rooney/Tevez scored far more than Drogba/Anelka you joker, the latter did nothing for Chelsea and the former was too busy being injured/diving. Adebayor and Torres have had one good season, and neither were considered natural goalscorers beforehand. I'm reserving judgement until the end of next, Andy Johnson looked amazing after one season. Considering everything else Tevez/Rooney bring I'm sticking with them, with their terrible 1 in every 2 games over the course of the season ratio :deal
Only to the superficial fan: a great proportion of his goals that year for Crystal Palace, were in actual fact penalty kicks. He is a bit of a diver himself actually. I think the Tevez/Rooney partnership is OK but I don't blame Ferguson for looking else where, they do need another dimension up front esepcially if Ronaldo does go.
Agreed, I've advocated signing a new striker for a while. It's still not a bad partnership, and Fergie looking for a new striker is not indicative of anything, other than we only have 2 reliable strikers proven at this level.
Anelka didn't get there until January so its hardly surprising they didn't score as many as Rooney/ Tevez......You've just dismissed Adebayor and Torres out of hand and not even mentioned Eduardo, Keane and Berbatov. Typical ESB debating tactics!!
I've not dismissed them. I'm saying I wouldn't swap Torres/Some crap pool striker given Torres has had only one good season or Adebayor/Eduardo who has also only had one good season, and the other just snapped his leg off Not for the proven class of Rooney, and Tevez who had a much underrated season in all competitions. Berbatov and Keane possibly. But Berbatov is on his way, so no need to worry :thumbsup
Torres one good season? Are you mad? He's been solid gold since a young age, sure sometimes these players have a relative dip for a season or two while they develop their game (Rooney arguably had one last year), but Torres' pedigree is as good as anything on the planet. To quote from somewhere or other: Torres won best player and top scorer prizes at the Under-16 and Under-19 world championships in 2001 and 2002, and scored three goals at the 2006 World Cup in which Spain went out in the second round. And he just scored the winner in the final of the Euro's. He destroyed Arsenal in the CL on his own. The lad is utter, utter, utter quality. If Ferguson had snaffled him instead of Berbatov or Tevez... well, United fans can only dream.
tevez and rooney are proven class but adebayor and torres are still not quite there yet? get your head out of ya shitter, rooney is as inconsistent as they come at the highest level.
Torres has had one good season in England, end of story. He also went stale in Spain for a good while. He's class though, and I expect he'll continue to do well, but I'm not swapping Tevez and Rooney for Torres and any other Pool striker who are all shite.
Okay, you have Adebayor and a guy whos leg just snapped off and could possibly never recover fully, or Torres and Voronin I'll take Rooney and Tevez
van persie>>>>>eduardo. secondly, neither adebayor or torres play in a conventional strike partnership. rooney or tevez is not a straight forward partnership but more so than either arsenal or liverpool employ.
More fool them if they want to play one out and out striker. Ronaldo plays just as advanced as Rooney or Tevez most of the time, maybe we should include him as well. Overall, it doesn't really matter. I take United's attacking players as a whole over any of these teams, and its not that close.
