The weird thing about this whole situation is that Floyd's people keep saying that belts don't matter, and that they're not sure that WW belt will be on the line. This suggests to me that Floyd is willing to fight at a catchweight.
A catchweight means that the fighter has to weigh in at a limit that is not stipulated by a weight division. I'm pretty sure if both fighters had to weigh in at say 143 lbs., it wouldn't be an official WW bout(WW rules stipulate that a fighter can't weigh more than 147 lbs.) and the title wouldn't be on the line
It was for Hopkins ring title. Ring magazine is not a sactioning body. WW rules state a guy can weigh between 140 and 147 lbs. If there's a contract weight below 147 than that would be against the rules, and an official sanctioning body wouldn't sanction the bout. Otherwise, a guy like Zab Judah could've forced guys to come in at 142 lbs. when he was the undisputed champ. He can make that weight easy, and normal WW would struggle to get to that weight.
I believe the weight issue will be secondary to the boxing skills and speed of Floyd Mayweather; like it was said during the DLH matchup, weight doesn't win fights, smarts win fights. At the same time, it won't make too much of a difference for PBF as he'll be himself and outbox Hatton using his superior skills.
you are right, skills do pay the bills. And Floyd got them. At whichever they fight at. If its at a catchweight. I still see Floyd by UD
