This is exactly why the fight bugs me. I was looking forward to the fight for months and Hatton goes out and loses in that fashion.
The only way the same move continues to work is if you let it - exactly what Ricky did. Not only does he lunge in, never coming in behind a jab, but he squares up and drops his right hand when throwing his left. Protecting the right side of your face when throwing a left hook is taught on your first day in a boxing gym.
I love Hatton but he does have a tendency for eating his words doesnt he? First the PBF mitts thing where he then proceeds to copy the exact routine, and that is classic.
for me, I couldn't have asked for a better result. It was unbelievable. The Pacman never ceases to amaze me
I saw that even today and before I got to read this post/thread. Pacquiao had Hatton's number for this one - He was confident that Hatton would spend all the time looking to turn to his side to unleash that left hook so he just had to be first with his right hook. It's about faster movement and thinking - Hatton tries to set up his left hook, Pac goes full steam on his right hook counter-offense and Hatton presents his face before his left hook goes off. Rolling under is smart to avoid the shot but hey, Pac already knew this guy had no body movement so he just had to move his body to the side, underneath or a little step back to make it.
Yeah, "same move everytime". And Hatton made the same 'move" he did against Floyd, getting flattened.
good find. Poor old Ricky = providing a commentary for his future knockout! This kind of proves he didn't think during the fight - he just went in like a bull in a china shop. I watched a few rounds of the Collazo fight again the other day - it was exactly the same Ricky then as in the Pac fight. You could have picked him up from the start of the Collazo fight, time traveled him into the future and dropped him into the ring to fight Pac in May '09, and I'd be surprised if anything would have been any different. He just gets excited, throws all training and advice out the window and does it "Ricky style" every time. Bless him.
That's what he got for belittling/underestimating his opponent. He probably thought he can bully Pac into submission.
I said once and I'll say it again. Hatton is the very best Club\Street fighter out there today. And he is to be commended for getting this far with the skillset he had. But once he started facing the ELITE fighters of boxing, instead of older, semi-retired guys - he was destined to be exposed. Hatton never was and never will be a TOP-TIER BOXER -- He is a Club\Street fighter with very good management.
