Hatton v Mayweather - hard to picture the loser Being British, I grew up watching Hatton fight. I watched him steamroll through about 30/40 tomato cans and knew he was far better than anything else we had in the country. The fighters he fought wern't anything special, but it was evident Hatton was a top notch fighter. After watching someone look unbeatable, regardless who they've fought, it's hard to picture them losing. I still can't picture Hatton losing now, it seems wierd. The Collazo fight was a strange experience, I actually thought "He's lost... I can't believe it".. but then he got the verdict and scraped though. I still feel the southpaw stance was the major issue in that fight, but it's done, so whatever. Now we have the Mayweather fight, and I can't picture a Hatton loss, although I think he will lose. Does that make sense? Do other Hatton fans feel like this? Or even Mayweather fans? Actually hearing Michael Buffer call the winner and it not being your fighter? The more I think about this fight, the more twisted my head gets. If we be honest, Mayweather is something else, his accuracy is pin-point and technically untouchable. Then I watch some footage of Hatton training and I think "Yeah.. Ricky's gonna get close to him, smother him and outpunch him" but then I watch a few more Floyd fights and I start scratching my head again, thinking he's too slick, and his timing is perfection. You see, I think Mayweather is possibly one of the best EVER, I honestly do. Up there in the category of elite fighters, but I don't feel Hatton is one of the best ever, YET, I still think he might beat Mayweather? I don't know how I can come to that conclusion, but I do. Maybe as fans, we ARE blinded by support for our fighter. Anyway, I guess someone's '0' has gotta go..... SnR
It's normal bro..Don't sweat it.We sometimes,sub-consciously,wish our favourite fighter is gonna win...even tho',consciously,we know they might lose. That's what being a fan is all about sometimes. Can't forget how many people thought Tito was gonna wipe the floor with Hopkins....even tho',consciously, they knew Hopkins's experience and size were gonna be a huge factor in the factor in the fight. And so it came to pass that BHop wiped the floor with Trinidad. For me personally,it was the Tommy Hearns-Marvin Hagler fight.Tommy is still one of my favourite top3 fighters of all time. He's the guy who turned to this game...made me a hard-core boxing fan.I just could'nt see Hagler derailing Hearns at all.I kept thinking...Tommy is too fast and too strong for him....kept thinking no-one can outbox Tommy.Even tho' I knew that Marvin had one of the strongest chins in boxing history...and I also knew...that probably, second to Joe Frazier,no-one had that kind of intensity in the ring...Well,we know what happened in that fight. There's many others... So no bro...it just means that you are just a hard-core fight fan...who sometimes thinks with his heart...Like the rest of us.Of course,Hatton has a good shot to upset Mayweather...His physicality alone guarantees that he will have more than a fair shot at beating Floyd(in the closet I'm praying he does, imagine the re-match!!).Mayweather tho'...like him or not...and I hate the sucker...has unbelievable defensive skills...He does just enough to make you miss...huff and puff....and gets in clinical and precise shots to tally up the points. That's his game.Don't think Hatton is in any danger of being KO'd...Mayweather just does'nt punch that hard. The true test for Hatton is gonna be...can he keep his workrate up for at least 8rounds or so.Cause I think early on he'll be able to get to Floyd...hell if DLH can,so can Ricky. If he can keep it up past the 7th round,he's got a great shot of winning...Mayweather is not gonna trade with him...we know that. The plan is to get to him quick and early...rough him up a bit....Just like Zab Judah/DLH started....Except for Ricky to keep up for longer.Make it a mountain for Floyd to come back...pointswise. Either way,it should be a great fight.Let it go bro.You are just a fan of Hatton's.No more,no less.
yep, hattons fight with collazo was a lot closer which ever way you scored it than castillo beating mayweather in there first fight.
I would love to see this as another Leonard - Duran (either fight), but given Floyd's safety-first pot-shot and run style I can see Hatton getting countered all night as he leaves himself too open as he moves in. How much punishment can Ricky absorb? It's the cumulative damage that worries me. I do however think Floyd wil be surprisingly open to hooks to the body if he gets pinned on the ropes and starts that shoulder-rolling crap. It's great at deflecting shots aimed to the head, but the trunk of the body is still there to be hit. I don't think the difference in hand & foot speed between the two is as great as some of Mayweather's more 'blinkered' fans would have you believe. Their respective defenses though are poles apart and this will be ultimately the difference between the two. If Hatton can land enough to the body in the early to mid-rounds PBF will be forced to stand and trade the deeper the fight goes. If this scenerio plays out Hatton has a chance of stopping him. Mayweather won't K.O. Hatton though, doesn't have the power. As much as I dislike the Mayweather's public persona, you got to hold your hands-up and acknowledge his boxing skills. Mayweather is the favourite, but Hatton is a 'live' underdog.
Hey mate, Great post, good to see a hardcore fan who can look at a fight from an intelligent standpoint. Posts like this are refreshing amongst all the nuthugging bull**** that goes on and on, keep it up man, and best of luck to Ricky, i'm cheering for him!
Some great posts here with one exception. Not too hard to figure out who it is. Seriously, how stupid is that. If Tszyu did visit for a quick pension grab, why on earth wait until the 11th round to quit? Tszyu came to fight, and the better man on the night won. Being a big Tszyu fan it was hard to stomach seeing him finish on his stool but he had nothing left. Any lingering sour taste in my mouth was gone after Hatton showed true class to him after their bout. Get over it Standi, we know your a big PBF fan. More power to you. But your continuos running down of his opponents is actually doing more harm to your claims of PBF being an ATG. If we go by your viewpoint, PBF is only beating C Class fighters, which doesn't say much for his legacy.
Dont worry man. Its normal. Im a huge fan of Mayweather etc. And when they did the SD I thought they might just give it to Oscar because its Oscar.. But you know, you think weird ****. Well what if all the **** I talked about Floyd dominating! and then Floyd just gets KTFO. Or just totally rocked. Lol. All that **** go through the mind. Perfectly normal.
I was just thinking what a great post the original one was and how it differed from some of the other shittier ones. Then the Shitmeister himself spoiled it all.
