I agree with Anthony W here. Hatton was a good fighter, even if I wasn't personally a fan (**** me what an ugly, mauling style), but Cotto takes this down the stretch. He's just that little bit better imo.
Cotto by knockout, no doubt. Mauling won't work with for Hatton with a bigger, stronger, harder punching, more durable and more skillfull Cotto, who would stop him in his tracks and push him back with his combos and body attack.
Hatton. at 140 Cotto. at 147 Cotto looked good against zab and mosley at 147. i think 147 is Cotto's best weight.
Hatton would beat him at that weight for sure. It's Hatton's natural fighting weight and one that would be extremely uncomfortable for Cotto, who isn't particularly good at taking the kind of pressure Hatton can dish out. I know floydboyz have this agenda of hyping up Cotto for the Mayweather match, but get real.
It would be a really gruelling but cotto would find a way to win like he did against torres, cotto hit really hard at that weight and hatton has been hurt a fair few times in his prime even though he had a decent beard. If hatton thought urango hit hard to the body he'd be in a world of pain against cotto
I thought this at first , but seeing how vulnerable Cotto seemed to be against margarito and his lack of heart makes me feel Hatton takes the majority of the late rounds and win a very close decision
In 2005 before Hatton decided to add 40lbs between fights I dont see how Cotto would withstand the constant pressure . Hatton would have been quicker to the punch and wouldnt allow Miguel the space he needs to work. Hatton is very underated on here down to his loses to the two best fighters on the planet. I know it sounds strange , but I think the advice that he got from Oscar wasnt any good.
Hatton when he was at his absolute best was probably a bit too much for Cotto, who didn't have the best chin at 140. I think Cotto really killed himself to get down to jr. welter and it really affected his punch resistance. I see Hatton mugging his way to a late TKO or UD.
