NO, not that Hatton! As yet there is no news on the "Hitman's" comeback but younger brother Matthew Hatton has nailed down his mandatory shot at IBO welterweight champion Lovemore N'Dou for November 13. Adding to the good news is that the fight will take place in the UK "hopefully Manchester" stated Hatton Promotions CEO Gareth Williams and will headline the group's second Sky TV show. Yes, the fight is on Friday the 13th and when this contest was first mooted for September, Hatton was installed as a 4-1 underdog. Understandable you might think for someone who has lost to former Commonwealth king Craig Watson, going up against a world-class performer albeit in the veteran stage of his career. However, Hatton has won straight since then and has come on in leaps and bounds. In short, he's as ready as he'll ever be. Also the September 12 date was rumoured to be for Kempton Park in N'Dou's native South Africa so you may not find your local bookie quite so generous now the location has changed. Hatton must be elated. A 'world' title shot however spurious against a slightly faded champion at home both geographically and promotionally and topping the bill on TV. the stuff dreams are made of? "My team have done a fantastic job," Hatton beamed today. "I've done well to get myself into a position to challenge for this but my team Gareth, my dad Ray and Ricky deserve credit. I always thought I'd have to travel to South Africa but full respect to them for making him an offer he couldn't refuse. I won't let them down." (courtesy of boxing news email alert 3:38 pm today, probs been discussed but hey ho)
I'll have to force myself to watch this, only in the hope that 'majic' gets chined:yep But i can actually see him winning this :-(
I thought Sky had a policy of not having bogus world tidle fights on, or did that get negotiated away when reaching a deal with the Hatton's?
Hopefully N'Dou by stoppage. It will force Hatton jr to go the proper way..... Oh, **** - he tried that and was outclassed by Craig Watson Just give it up, Matthew - try something else.
I thought Sky refused to show fights where the fight was meaningless? Or at least for a meaningless belt.
correct [unless they can trade off someone's family name] its about profit, not legitimacy. shock horror.
N'Dou is a much better fighter than Hatton will ever be. N'dou shouldn't lose this but I see what Hatton is doing. This is simply another small, tough, limited fighter in the Tackie mould.
