People like to move the goal posts but I like threads like this. Shows how Pac completely blew people’s minds and defied the odds only to make it out to be something else afterwards. The amount of rationalising after every win. Oscar was drained he would lose to any top 10 WW. Beat Hatton, must be on peds. And here we go again with Thurman. Probably find many threads with people predicting Pac to get fked by Thurman if they every fought. Pac loses every fantasy fight until it becomes a reality, then people quickly change their tune.
This is why Pacquiao is the GOAT—he achieves the seemingly impossible. I mean, outside of Inoue, anyone think a flyweight can go up to 140 and KO Hatton?
Epic bump. Genuinely surprised at the Kool-Aid. I don't remember it being quite so one-sided at the time.
Love seeing threads like these bumped. Just shows how most people still underestimated Pac even back then.
Sadly that is true. People are so quick to change their perspective and instead of giving credit they just give out excuses every time Pac wins. Even when people thought Pac had no chance against Thurman they had to use the BS excuse that Thurman wasn't the same fighter that fought Garcia or Porter. As I've said, Pac's resume will look better over time and people will appreciate him more in time.
Pac is one of the best fighters ever, no doubt. But 8 weight classes? 99% likely been using performance enhancing drugs. You shouldn't gain more speed and power like Pacman as you rise through the weights.
Back in 2008, I never thought like this btw. I thought Pac was amazing. Also thought Usain Bolt was amazing. Now I'm quite sceptical, truth be told.
Um, he didn't? Pacquiao was a much more devastating puncher in the lower weight classes. His speed was also much faster in the lower weights.
You can't deduce that from someones success, lmao. It's like someone beat me in a boxing match, must be on PEDs. You can get faster and stronger if you were underweight and building the right muscles. What do you think creates speed? Muscle. Thats why those sprinters are so fast. What do you think creates power? Muscles again. Obviously if you were skin and bone before, and then you build the right muscle, fast-twitch muscle fibers, you're gonna get faster and hit harder. Also FYI, Pac was way faster at FW vs WW, and hit way harder p4p at FW vs WW.
I probably could have worded my post better, apologies. P4P of course he was better in the lower classes. However, do you really believe a guy could climb that many divisions, improve his strength that much? And batter fighters like Cotto and Margarito? I would love to be wrong, I really would. However, I'm very doubtful.
I'm not disagreeing on what you are saying. However with all the scandals in sport in the last decade and all the athletes who have had samples re tested, came back positive. Would it really surprise you that in that time frame a fighter who was hailed a miracle winning titles in 8 divisions, turned out to be taking peds?
