Ricky Hatton has warned Oscar De La Hoya he will pull the plug on their proposed £40million showdown if he is not happy with his purse.
De La Hoya wants to fight Hatton in Cardiff on May 3. The American takes on Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas on Saturday De La Hoya's Golden Boy promotions believes a bout in front of 70,000 people at the Millennium Stadium on a Sunday night for US TV could be a real money spinner.
But the Hitman will take a tough line and could demand as much as £20m.
The light-welterweight king knows no other fighter in the world can match his box office appeal and is determined to cash in on it.
"Manny and Oscar are the big names, but I'm in a position where I don't have to wait around for them," said Hatton. "When the negotiations come I'm in a wonderful position. I like to think I can say to Oscar, if the terms aren't right I'll ditch him and go and fight in front of 100,000 people.

    He's right.

Against anything approaching a big name, Hatton will easily sell 100,000 tickets, he doesn't need Oscar.

Yep he sold 55,000 tickets (one of them including me) for Lazcano. He could sell out Wembley against a Malignaggi rematch!!!! Lets hope that doesnt happen though.

he's right in wanting a fair cut. Draws very big crowds from the u.k, everyone here wants to watch him fight and a lot wouldn't care if it was oscar or the next guy.

Hatton unquestionably deserves a better cut than Pacquiao or Mayweather, by the numbers.

Spot on - When it comes to getting bums on seats for the fight, Hatton and Calzaghe are P4P #1 and 2.

Who else would DLH fight that would offer the same combination of money-generation and reasonably assured victory as Hatton?

Hatton knows he's in the box seat, If DLH won't pay what he wants Hatton can fill the City of Manchester stadium against basically anyone and DLH got pretty much nowhere else to go.

Hatton is a bigger draw than Pac IMO he probably deserves more but he's not as talented as Pac. With that siad I hope this fight never takes place. Oscar is ruining boxing with his tour of fighting small men he will KO for megapays this is not a good trend and will only hurt boxing.
