As far as I can see you are the only one trotting these 'excuses' out ?

Everyone else seems to think it's a fight that could have happened, should have happened, didn't happen. Hatton didn't want it for non-boxing reasons, rightly or wrongly.

But given the way their careers have played out:

    It's barely a footnote in Hatton's history
    It defines Junior's whole career

I know who I'd rather be.

Hardly. If you become a world champ you've done decent for yourself, and yes Witter could and should have done a lot more because he had the talent.

Fact is he called out the best in Britain at the time, and later the best in the world. I have no problem with that, especially when there were ample opportunities always greeted with differing degrees of laughable excuse. After you start to hear worse and worse different excuses you just know there is some major duckage going on.

He spent a career whinging that he wanted his Hatton payday

I believe that will define him in future years, and I believe he'll regret it.

He should have got off his arse and made his own way in the world.

We only have to look to Froch for evidence of that. Hanging on the coat tails of your more talented countrymen is not the only route to success.

Froch has taken his time about it. Problem for Froch is his career and Calzaghe's never really crossed paths. He was either treading water at domestic level, and when he did finally arrive on the world scene Calzaghe was in retirement.

Hatton and Witter came up the domestic ranks together, Hatton ducked him and then made a good career for himself, then Witter came good and did what Hatton asked "to win a real world title", then Hatton changed the goalposts and told him to defend it a few times and the rest is history.

Trotter...maybe you didn't notice but Witter took out some good fighters on the way to becoming WBC and ring champ...so how the **** is his whole carrer been about whining about Hatton? Think about what you are saying. There is life in boxing beyond Hatton you know, don't let the egomaniac self-obsessed 'Hitman' fool you.
The fight made perfect sense for a span of about 8 years.....and the only thing that changed in that time was Wicky's plethora of pathetic excuses not to to fight Junior. Plenty of people see this, you're wrong.

On a personal level I agree with Hatton but if you have a personal issue in boxing then you are paid to sort it out and legally. If you really have an issue, man up.

Hatton should have fought Witter, but that's a very different issue to ducking him.

Jatton avoided no one. He should have ducked a coupke of fighters as it turned out, but he had the belief to be the best. Just not the speed, reflexes, defence or equaliser at the absolute elite level.

Who knows? Maybe Witter would have beaten Hatton, but I doubt Ricky thought that was a possibility.

I find the whole Witter tirade against Hatton hypocritical as I know for a fact Witter has avoided other fighters.

When was Witter regarded number 1 by the ring magazine ?

As someone said, why fight Mayweather, Pacquiao, Tszyu and Corrales and duck Witter ?

Well said Steve. I think you mean Castillo instead of Corrales.
