No ref calls a fight perfectly, but most do a decent job. I felt Cortez could have spoken to/warned/deducted points from both fighters for various offences. Bottom line, it wouldn't have changed the outcome. And I've always disliked Cortez btw, but the Soto affair was the last straw. Guy shouldn't referee another bout. Come back Mills Lane all is forgiven.:good Whats your point bud?
Ill watch what i like son. I wont however give him much credit if he wrestles his way to a win. Are you ******ed or something ? where have i said its not a part of Boxing? excessive holding and hitting is not part of Boxing. So you cant get inside, if you have smaller arms did J C Chavez used to clinch excessively ? Dont ever put Frazier,Duran,Ali in the same sentence ever again those guys whole game was not based on holding. :-(
Seems American refs don't mind it if it is in the favour of the American boxer neither. B-Hop held more against Calzaghe than i have ever seen Ricky hold in any fight but B-Hop didn't even get a warning. Atleast when Hatton holds he looks to free his arms and throw punches while inside... B-Hop just held
That is simply poor refereeing, especially from one man. The inconsistency results in a loss of credibility. I think somewhere between the two performances of Cortez would have been good reffing. Let a bit of holding go, but encourage them to work out, or else break it up. Don't let either guy consistently hold, give warnings then points. Warn holding and hitting strongly.
So what you're saying is, "I watch boxing, I know holding is a part of the sport, I don't like the fact some fighters hold, so I'll post on ESB that I don't like them holding, even though I'll still watch them". Genius.:happy
Well in your first post that I quoted, you said that it's the ref's job to call holding, not the fans. My point was that a ref can be wrong, or biased or simply not see something, or just be bad at his job, so in a discussion like this it's perfectly o.k. for a fan to have an opinion.
I aint your son dip****... i'm probably older than you are. That's fine don't give the guy credit but don't come on here telling people he's a cheat and that it's ok for B-hop to hold cos he's old. J C Chavez had a phenomonal chin and didn't mind walking through punches to get his own off... Hattons way is an uglier way but more effective than walking in getting tagged and i think you'll find Chavez had a fairly decent reach compared to many of his oponents
How many times? i dont mind holding to an extent and i agree its part of the sport, but i dont like EXCESSIVE holding, and that is Hatton all over. No, im watching to see Pacquiao destroy him for being a wrestler and not a Boxer.
Ahhhhh so the real point finally comes out. "I'm a ******* and I'm going to hate on Ricky" Just wasted 10 minutes of my life, I'm outa here.
Okay sorry that was just my way of patronizing you anyway listen old guy. Ill come on here saying what i like Chavez had a very underrated defence. Much better than Hatton's defence and he was not a wrestler. Chavez was a far better fighter too.
Is it? Urango and Lazcano he went into both carrying illness and not properly prepared. weren't much holding in the Mayweather fight and some of which was intiated by Mayweather. Against Castillo both were in fighters and holding will always happen in that scenario but if you read the stats Hatton threw many more punches than Castillo. Against Paulie Hatton wasn't holding AT ALL. Against Tszyu it was a tactic used to stop one of the most murderous punchers of all time pound for pound getting leverage on his punches. I agree it's not attractive and he has held a lot more in recent years but not all the holding in his fights was initiated by him. A lot of fighters will look to hold Hatton when he gets in close because they know how effective he is at in fighting
