They weren't interested in showing Hatton's comeback fight in England at British time? Wow, that's amazing news. The whole world doesn't care about Junior Witter, and I've never heard the word "Witter" mentioned on HBO. They don't give a f-huck.
Whats HBO/ Lazcano/ Showtime got to do with it? You asked who'd rather see Hatton fight PauliM than Witter and I told you. There is a world outside the ESB Brit Boxing Forum you know....
Is that the same Goldenboy who currently promote Ricky Hatton and hence are staging the Hatton/Lazcano and Malignaggi/N'dou card?
Scurlantings, you mentioned Hatton as a media creation and Witters 'toil' in obscurity. Well, it all comes down to management, as i have said before. Hatton has been managed excellently throughout his career, taking fights when he was ready and up until Mayweather he ALWAYS delivered! Witter has only himself and his management team to blame for his predicament...this is fact. When Witter started his career he was unorthodox and pretty unexciting, whilst Hatton was a bull in a china shop head on who had a fan favourite type of style. Can you blame Frank Warren for concentrating on Hatton? Witter then challenged Judah, he didnt have to but he did and he didnt even try and it was one of the worst performances i have ever seen! Granted he had balls for taking the fight but he did more harm to his career than Frank Warren could ever do with this fight. Really he wasnt ready and shouldnt of fought, blame his management! And once again where are all these tune up fights you keep referring to? And Hatton fighting Lazcarno is like Witter fighting Morua, but at least Lazcarno is ranked.
Hatton is saying all that but he is not really backing it up with his actions. If he wants to be remembered for fighting the best and not ducking anyone he still has a few fights to make. I agree with him on the Witter situation though, it is not yet time for this fight, specially coming off a KO loss. The fight with Witter is a tough one and it should be a megafight, happening after Hatton beats Mallignaggi to become unified champion. It would be nice if Witter stops focusing on Hatton the whole time and goes after Torres and Kotelnik to become unified champion himself. Imagine the attention it would bring to have two unified champions battling each other for the division supremacy? It's time Witter realizes that, Hatton would have no motives to turn him down if he was in this situation. After Witter, Hatton should fight one of the top big name lightwheights, whoever emerges on top between Pacquiao, Juan Diaz or Katsidis, and then he can have his rematch with Floyd at Wembley. I can't think of a better way to finish his career. It would be four more fights after Lazcano: September/October 2008 - Mallignaggi January 2009 - Witter June 2009 - Pacquiao November 2009 - Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Good post. What i would say to all you Hatton knockers is he should be judged when he has packed in.If the fights that have been suggested above take place in the next couple of years and he sees Witter and Malignaggi off then you are all going to look a bit silly. If they dont happen then you will have some valid points. But whoever he fights or avoids,he is English and i dont wish him to lose for that alone.
I'm new here and see there are some feelings running pretty high on this subject (Hatton/Witter). Everyone is entitled to their opinion but there are somethings that just aren't true. One of those is Paulie Malignaggi having any claim to be the number 2 light-welterweight in the world. Those that loyally follow Hatton may wish to think so to make themselves feel better that he'd rather face Paulie, but here's why it's whistling in the dark: Witter has been unbeaten longer than Paulie's been fighting. Witter has beaten more top ten ranked opponents than Paulie (WBA champ, Kotelnik, NDou, Lynes[now at number 10], Corley, and Harris), and this is backed up by any piece of boxing media you can get your hands on. They can't all be wrong now can they? Another misconception is about just how big a star Paulie is in the US. I wonder how many know that his last "defense" against Herman Ngoudjo sold lower numbers than Junior Witter's European title defense against Andreas Kotelnik. Paulie has never been anywhere near PPV and has a decent following in Ne York, but is pretty insignificant outside it. His biggest crowd was against Cotto in MSG- on Puerto Rico's national holiday. So I think it's easy to guess who the crowd was there to see. Hatton is the "money" at 140lbs and no one else in the division has more to offer him than a belt. Beating one of the belt holders will get him as much props as any other with casual fans. Those in the know, really know that Witter is probably the hardest fight of the lot and beating him leaves absolutely no question as to who The Man is at 140lbs. I know, I know, Hatton already holds that distinction. But that was for beating Tzsyu which was THREE years ago. Maussa, Urango and a shopworn Castillo isn't exactly stamping authority, belts or no belts. Saying that "nobody knows or cares about Witter" may or may not be true. But I remember seeing an article in none other than The Ring magazine about one man Hatton won't fight at light-welterweight. It wasn't about Torres or Paulie. It was about Witter. After beating tzsyu and before losing to Mayweather, there was no call for this fight to happen. There is now, because Hatton claims he is a light-welter and the best one in the world. I'd be more convinced if he beat Witter to prove it than beating Malinaggi.
I agree.I think Hatton would smash Malignaggi.I think Witter would be a bigger test and i also think Hatton should fight him before he packs in.All im saying is lets hold judgment on the whole Witter thing until either Hatton packs in or Witter gets beat in the meantime. For what its worth i do think Hatton will beat Witter but only time will tell.
