Both of them are the only 2 recent fights which has actually seen Mayweather have to work for his win. They both came to win.

 

PBF pulled every dirty trick in the book against Hatton. after he survived the early pressure he too Hatton out with clean shots.

Cotto. many rounds that went to Floyd where very close. Cotto was doing work and landed shots to floyds body and head... but Floyd won the rounds and fight on landing the cleaner shots. For me Cotto needed to finish strong to win the fight or get a draw... but Floyd took the last 2 or 3 rounds with ease as Cotto seemed gassed.

Hatton won maybe a round or two.

He made Floyd work harder than usual and applied pressure but he was taking the great majority of clean shots rather than delivering them.

 

Despite the outcome of either fight, Mayweather was cryin exhausted and embraced to his kids in the end of the Hatton fight and I never have seen that. Hatton just put a lot of relentless pressure on Mayweather from the onset and despite having bad results in boxing terms, I don't believe he won more rounds than Cotto, he pushed maywetaher to a limit that Floyd had to retire to comeback later.

 

Hatton didn't win more than 2 rounds, some can argue Cotto won 3. Hatton and Cotto however made Floyd work for the win.. And the myth that Cortez didn't allow Hatton to fight his fight needs to die, if you look at it majority of the times he broke them up he HAD to.. Someone's arm was completed tied, someone was in a headlock, someone was punched in the back of the head, something that prevented them from fighting inside.. People act like Cortez just broke them up whenever they got close, Floyd was smart in making Cortez break it up.

 

Cotto won 4 rounds, Hatton - Not so much.
Hatton got ktfo, Cotto - Not so much.

 

I gave Hatton 2 rounds and Cotto 2 rounds, difference was that Cotto was there in every round and only lost a couple in dominating fashion, most of the rounds Floyd won vs Cotto weren't as clear cut as the ones he won vs Hatton. Not to mention Hatton got figured out and faded and Cotto was still coming up til rd 11. Cotto was in the fight making it competitive til rd 11, Hatton was in the fight til rd 7-8 if I remember correctly.
