Did the Tyzsu fight take alot out of him. Bear in mind it was a close fight till the stoppage and Kostya hit Hatton with flush rights. Against Maussa, Collazo and Urango he looked awful. Or was it once he stepped up in class he was exposed.
Impossible to tell. Tszyu was just fine before he fought Hatton. Then he was shot. So, if it can happen to Tszyu, it can happen to Hatton. The truth is most of this is just hearsay. Commentators will make comments and fans catch on. The memes dictate what the consensus is. Lampley's statement about Vitali winning the event still shapes how people think about the fight. Had he not said that, things would have been different.
Yea, it was after he overcome that easy touch Tszyu and stepped up in class against Urango, Maussa, Collazo, Lazcano etc that he was exposed.
I don't think he would have beat KT on neutral ground. Hatton was better than the journeymen but worse than the greats.
Hatton decline came about due to his dieting and his training habits. Everyone around him told him he cant keep ballooning up in weight then coming back down for a fight. It wasn't healthy nor was the excessive drinking.
I don't think he became shot. He didn't look that bad against Maussa, against Collazo he was fighting a big faster southpaw in his prime, that was a good close win, Urango he outboxed 9-3 or 10-2 but got hurt to the body against, he ran at the end and jumped in clinching without punching first, Castillo he looked good but Castillo was past prime. Against Mayweather he gave Floyd a tough fight for the first 5 or 6 rounds and he really forced the fight. I didn't like the style change with Mayweather Sr, it made him much more upright, took away his mauling/wrestling tactics that worked so well for him, took away and didn't manage to make him into a super slick boxer type unsuprisingly. Pacquaio may have done that to any version of Hatton, he'd certainly beat any version
I actually like watching Hatton fight but I thought his peak may have been at 140. I thought he looked fine against Urango, I think he looked bad against Collazo & Lazcano. As far as decline, he really beat himself by gaining so much weight & losing it constantly that's not healthy. He was called "Ricky Fatton" for a reason lol. I didn't see the Maussa fight so I'll watch that today. He was a good fighter possibly HOF'er that only lost to two P4P fighters and would fight anybody. I'll miss him.....
Hattons lifestyle didnt help matters but for me i feel the step up in class just showed that hatton wasn't the fighter most people thought (myself included). I also think he should never have left the 140 division.Fair play to him for fighting the big boys though!!
Hatton just became **** tactically and resorted to the holding style. Before the Tsyzu fight he was much more adaptable and this allowed him to look better against different styles. "Brawling" style was stupid for people who were bigger and stronger than him. His frame also didn't stand up well to opponents above 147lbs.
Hatton was nearly KO by feather fisted Collazo and by shot Lazcano....He started to go dowm shortly before the Mayweather fight and Mayweather just took just about everything away from his heart, chin and prime.
Thats a bit harsh, I think Hatton gets over criticised. Its true he came up short at pound for pound top ten level but I wouldnt call him a B level fighter, he only lost to the two best fighters in the world today and he gave Mayweather more of a fight than the majority of Floyds other opponents. The rough style isnt to everyones taste but the way he moves his feet to find angles for body shots on the inside is amazing. Im British and I admit it makes me a little bias towards Hatton but Im diluded in thinking hes the greatest fighter of all time, I do disagree though when people completely write him off as ****.
Hatton didn't start to decline until AFTER the horrific beating Money inflicted on him. It wasn't until then that Hatton started to show the signs and the joke Roach and PacGwire decided to face the shot to ****, leftover scraps of a once decent fighter.
