Prospect sells a shedload of tickets to lads he knows. Do they want to see him going six rounds with a seasoned pro who might make him look a bit daft before losing on points or do they want him to knock over a Bulgarian tram driver within thirty seconds?

Knocking people over inside a round does get a bit boring, and I would be asking questions.....

You would, and so would I, but the fighter's mates, who probably don't know any more about boxing than Ricky Hatton likes a drink, will love it.

First friday fight night I've really enjoyed this season, mind you I was half cut when watching it. Horton vs Renda was a good scrap and well worth watching, good learning fight for Horton.. I guarentee he will stick to boxing in his next fight and I'd like to see more of Renda because he has some bang onn him.

If Hatton can get some decent boxers on his books he could be excellent for the sport because he is already a very popular figure in & outside the ring.

Give the man a chance it was his first Show. A European title fight isnt bad for a first show at all.
I respect guys like Delroy Spencer. He isnt great but has loads of experience. I seen him live a couple times, he is tiny! But a tough cookie. At the end of the day I sure if he had another way of earning some money and putting food on the table he would. or maybe he just enjoys it? What ever the case man needs to earn a living.

I was told at the weekend that the Hatton's are on the verge of signing up for a programme similar to The Osborns  The guy who told me works for Channel 4 so it may be something well known within the industy :-(

the whole promotion was shithouse. Matching hyped fighters against tomato cans, Hatton is trying to replicate his own career. It won't wash again.

Re your bit in bold - These boxers also deserve their payday.

It's a difficult one and I take your point. But at the same time, it's difficult enough for fighters to get a decent payday without being able to rack up a few wins in mismatches. I dont advocate it, just (like Burnleyblue said) I dont see it changing.

    Hmmm.....

    I agree to a point.

Not sure padding records up to their eyeballs does boxing any good though..... plenty of pretty weak fighters have gotten title shots (at varying levels - area, British etc) despite being little better than your average journeyman, and been dispatched as such, whilst guys like Willie Limond are kicking their heels in frustration.

Compare that to fighters, say, such as Thaxton, who has losses running into double figures..... but fought pretty much everybody in and around the 135-140lb divisions over the past decade. Hatton, Magee, Meager, Stewart, Lawton etc - though he is (IMO) a better fighter than that record suggests.

I guess as a relative newcomer to boxing it's something I will learn to understand, but something is clearly out of kilter somewhere.

Was not impressed by his matchmaking for his prospects. If that was anything to go by we won't be seeing many of his prospects in serious fights anytime soon. I just don't understand the choice of opponents for Scott Quigg, Joe Murray and especially Martin Murray and Mark Thompson.

Quigg was 14-0-0 going into the fight last friday so why was he in for a four rounder when he still hasn't gone beyond four and has only had one scheduled six rounder, and why is he still fighting guys that are complete tomato cans? Joe Murray is a hugely accomplished amatuer that does not need spoon feeding, I respect guys like Delroy Spencer hugely but Joe Murray should not be fighting an opponent like him in his fourth fight (say what you like about FW but his olympians are fighting much better opposition). Martin Murray has won Prizefighter and has beaten decent oppo recently in Kevin Concepcion so has decent pedigree, why was he facing a can it was a complete waste of time. And I cannot understand why at 28 with a 21-1 record why Mark Thompson is still fighting six rounders against such a poor opponent if Hatton wants him to get him in decent fights like for the British or Commonwealth then why is he not get him a more challenging opponent.

I'm not going to claim him to be a poor promoter yet he is still in the early stages of his promotion. But I will be interested to see how his next show goes and how the fighters are matched.

Does anyone know how many tickets we're sold for this event it didn't look like it did too well (maybe 1,500 at best).
