Hatton's mindset won't do him any favours

I get the distinct feeling that Hatton is getting over confident in the run up to Saturday's fight. It wasn't that long ago that he got outmuscled and sparked out by a former SFW, but I don't think it's humbled him in any way.

After watching 24/7 and reading a few articles I can sense a marked contrast in the 2 fighters mindsets. While Roach has come out with a bit of smack talk his fighter has repeatedly put across his view that it's going to be a really hard fight and that Hatton is a very good fighter. Some of Hatton's comments though suggest he sees things differently.

Obviously Ricky won't shutup about all this P4P cobblers and unbelievably Sky have gone down that route to promote the fight. But Ricky has also made some comments that make me think he is underestimating Pacquiao.

    • "When I get cut I just get on with it, Manny's not like that he gets flustered"
    • "I'm too strong and rough etc, etc, I'm faster than JMM etc"
    • "Look the same move over and over again, bang-bang-and spin to his right, I'll just hit him with the left hook" - This little segment of 24/7 reminded me a lot of Hatton mocking Mayweather Jnr's padwork.
    • "Look at all these fans, no one will ever bring this amount of fans to Vegas again, no one will do what I've done, they'll look back and say, "Ricky really rocked Vegas"".
Pacqiuao seems to be thinking "Hatton is a monster I need to be at my best" while Ricky is thinking more along the lines of, "I'm a monster, he doesn't like it to the body, he's one dimensional, he's a bit of a cry baby if he gets cut etc".

Reminds me a bit of Calzaghe against Hopkins, needed to be put on his ass to wake up and realise he had his hands full.

I don't know where to go with this answer one thread his saying he looks apprehensive and this thread he over confident. Can't we just say he his confident and have done with it. Pac team are also over confident especially moorer and freddy saying hatton is overrated.

You can't fault Ricky for being confident. He was a bag a nerves when he fought Lazcano and look at the performance he turned in.
I think it's a pre-requisite for a top level fighter to be confident in their own abilities and not worry too much about the other guy.
I see Ricky's assessment of Pac-man as a way of breaking through the hype (most of it justified) that surrounds Pac-man and treating him as he would any other opponent.

If Hatton were to go into the fight without being confident he would have no chance.

Yep, he sounds a lot like he did against Mayweather. I don't know whether he's convincing himself, us or Ricky Hatton.

I don't like to hear him say how no one gives him a chance, just like against Mayweather, plenty of people are giving him a chance so he doesn't need to feel sorry for himself for being written off as that is not the case. If things don't go his way early then I feel he could become disheartened and revert back to his old ways which he knows best as he might just accept that's who he is then.
