Ricky Hatton (43-0, 31 KOs): A legendary boxing trainer named Whitey Bimstein, once said, "Show me a fighter who`s undefeated and I`ll show you a fighter who hasn't fought anybody." The prevailing thought is that Hatton is one of boxing`s best P4P fighters. Truth is, the press has taught us to think that Ricky is a great fighter but boxing records don`t lie. If you take away the politics and hype and go over the Hitman`s caliber of opposition with a fine tooth comb, his record is not impressive. The best opponents that he has fought in 41 total fights, have been a 33-year-old Jose Luis Castillo, who after the wear and tear of a 16-year career and 64 total fights, he was in reality a washed up boxer when he faced Ricky. Then there is Kosta Tszyu who was in his mid-thirties and at the end of his 13-year career, just a shell of his former self when he fought Hatton. Hatton fought an overrated and limited Juan Urango, and the level of weak competition that Urango fought in his native Columbia is highly suspicious. And remember Luis Collazo? Who was TKO`ed by Edwin Cassasini in 2002. Collazo is a good but not a great fighter, but he did, however, expose Hatton as a fighter who can`t deal with boxers that move. Collazo-Hatton gave us a snapshot of the future outcome of the Mayweather-Hatton fight. The reality is, it is going to be a match-up nightmare for Hatton. Currently, his stock is steady but after examining his caliber of competition,it is starting to tank. STOCK DOWN This was in an article on ESB....i just wanted to see what the rest of you think about this analysis of Hatton.
I think its going to be the other way around. Hattons swarming style is going to give Mayweather a little trouble, hes not as mobile as a guy like Collazo, he will stand in there and block punches, which is going to give Hatton more chances to score. This will be most active fighter Mayweather has ever faced next to Castillo who also threw a lot of punches.
Hes not really, he will stand in there and block punches. Collazo is like Wittier, you need track shoes to fight him.
I agree. I think Hatton is in for it. As bad as I would like to see Mayweather lose, I just don't think Hatton has the tools to get it done. I would LOVE to be proven wrong though.
Yes I am, and you will see the light on fight night.:nut This is not going to be a blowout for Mayweather, its going to be a tough grueling fight for him, especially if hes underestimating him.
Hmm I dont see how Hatton's stock has fallen since he knocked out Castilloatsch Just another hater I guess.
i think this is really unfair and hatton has beaten some excellent fighters all i can say is if hatton wins the author of that shouldn't write again. The guy who wrote that will feel like a complete jackass and probably wont write another piece unless it is "mayweathers stock"
Mayweather is the king of potshotting. He likes to move yes, but he mainly scores when he plants his feet and counters his oncoming opponent and takes off. Hes not a completely mobile boxer. He also relies on his defense to block and counter when hes up against the ropes too. Hatton is a high energy high volume puncher from all angles type of fighter. That style is going to offset Mayweathers ability to fight his fight, because Hatton throws all kinds of weird punches from different angles. Its going to make Mayweather stand in a little more and fight, which is going to make an exciting fight. Thats the way I see it. I think these two fights between Mosley and Cotto and Mayweather and Hatton are stylistically dream matches and are going to make real good fights.
i see what ur saying but he throws lots of punches while moving....in fact he doesnt plant his feet that often. I think he is more mobile than collazo..but i respect what you say as well.
