And how many bags are the size of a human head ? :D

My point is that pads serve a strong purpose in pro boxing, there not the be all and end all as most casual boxers or boxing practitioners will believe but they have a place, all coaches are different, not all of them use pads, some more, some less

    But they have a place

thanks. good poad work can really improve a fighter.

can be really good for drilling counters till they become automatic.

but far more coaches are terrible with their padwork than good imo

    Norfolk is spot on IMO.

I never went back when a trainer told me a fighter has one head then produce one pad and it was worst piece of padwork i ever took part in.

Pads do have there worth, Many fighters have used them and developed with them but it's how there used. I'm actually not a fan of the body belt i don't like that at all personally the way some have used it. Pacquiao uses it better then Hatton who in the end was just have a fight with it IMO.

I think BB is right about trainers watching from outside, a football coach was from the outside. I always disagree when coaches join in games at end of sessions for various reasons. Trainers won't to be able to see all aspects, i think at times they should work the pads as well. Get as much angles as possible..

Pads are the reason there are no punchers anymore, and too many shoe shiners.

Manny Steward said he never used pads with the likes of Tommy Hearns.

they are good imo. throw a 1-2 or whatever and can just whip the left hook into the body instantly.

would recommend them for every gym :D

Pads are meant to help with coordination and combination punching. Basically, eye-hand balance, response times and fluidity. Evander Holyfield was an exceptional example. But he also sat down on his shots because he was trained by proper boxing people, not some bloke with a NC in sports fitness.

They're a good tool for the right fighter. Position, specific moves, identifying when the fighter isn't getting their hands back in position, form, etc.

But too many guys see it as an exercise in pattern repetition and never consider its use in the ring.

    You sure?

I read a quote from Steward saying there arnt many punchers left in boxing because hardly any trainers know how to use the pads.
