Seriously, take an overdose you thick ****.

I simply happen to think that pads are overused these days by fighters and their trainers.... that's all.

It's irrelevant what type of work Ricky does anyway because this is all going to end in tears.

My views is that it doesn't much matter whom he trains with - his strategy will be the same and Ricky will fight like he always does.

Only thing the trainer needs to do is:
    - get him in good physical shape
    - get him in a good frame of mind

If the trainer blows smoke up his arse and doesn't keep it real during pads and sparring, that would be a huge mistake.

After all, it's not like you need much of a strategic brain to figure out Katsidis.

You're absolutely right. Please tell me about your long, storied career training and training others. I'm on tenter hooks waiting to hear this expertise come flooding out.

Wow. A "your momma" joke. Good work.

    It's probably Vince Cleverly.

Yeah IIRC the quote was something like ''Trainers don't get fighters to punch through the target. On the pads they slap down on the fighters hands rather then force them to punch through the target''. (Paraphrasing slightly..)

Pads should be used for Technique only.

A Billy Graham equivalent is about the best Ricky could do, at least he's guaranteed to be in shape. The rest is just a matter of what he's got left as far as timing and reactions. Ricky ain't going to be whipping out a Sandy Saddler style old school guard combined with Roberto Duran's transition game, this old dog isn't learning new tricks my friend.

Hatton tried to learn a few with Mayweather and that was a giant **** up from start to finish so to think he is capable of it some years post-retirement is highly fanciful.

Now if we were to ponder Ricky with a better trainer than Billy Graham in his youth, that would be interesting. Ricky had a very short physical prime for obvious reasons, and due to style and lack of technical instruction, that was a short one that was never really replicated or exceeded after the Tszyu fight.
