FNF is not exactly an advertising juggernaut. TV and radio stations are designed to play advertisements. The programming just keeps us occupied between them. The more viewers you bring to the advertisers, the more money you get paid.
last i heard espn2 has a budget of like $50,000 per show....no one that fights on there is making any real money....just very good exposure
Yes, I know. I realize all that. I am just voicing my opinion on how ****ed up that is. These guys risk their lives, and they get ****. You have celebs that don't do **** and they get gold. Going away from sports, let's talk about everyday life. You take a fireman, risks his life everyday protecting others. Don't know how much they get paid, but I'm sure they have a good life enough to get by and all that good stuff. You compare it to some celeb that doesn't do **** like Paris Hilton or a Kardashian or any other millions of Hollywood carbon copies they got out there, and they get millions just because they walk around and don't do ****. When you compare the two just seems silly. Thus, me saying how backwards society is and just how mind boggling some things are and the way that they are.
They deserve whatever they generate. It's known as the "Wilt Chamberlain Effect." An athlete deserves the money equal to the additional profits that he/she brings to the table. That FNF card likely generated only minimal profit. Wolak and Rodriguez made good money (I'd take a fight on two hours notice for MUCH, MUCH less) to further their career. They can't complain. Don't feel sorry for them.
HBO doesnt market good interesting match-ups. They market "house" fighters and then continually shove them down the publics throat.
Wow, that money is slim pickings, especially if you consider the fighters´ expenses, like training camp staff etc. ****, they probably walked away with 7Gs in their pockets. In regards to the backwards society debate DMAN is ultimately right - yes, boxers should indeed be making much more than other so called athletes or do nothing celebs. On the one hand, the latter generate more money so they do make more. But the fact that they generate more money doing much less and in some cases virtually nothing (physically or intellectually) is a sad commentary on our society´s poor tastes and priorities.
Well -- money aside -- I'm disappointed by how things turned out. I'm a big Delvin Rodriguez fan. He seems like a good kid, and the mother****er can fight! Delvin is not a power house, and yet Oscar Diaz ended up in a coma and Wolak ended up with that eye. There ain't no quit in Delvin Rodriguez, and he is criminally under rated. I hope he drops back down to 147, and maybe someday he'll get that big win I believe he has somewhere inside himself.
jesus that sucks... especially when you consider how much HW are getting paid for boring fights, this one was a war and the guys deserve a nice pay day for it
How's that compare to ShoBox? Most FNF cards seem a league above ShoBox, but I bet fighters in the latter get paid more.
He's the epitome of a literal fringe contender in that he's always on the cusp of getting a title fight (losing the one he had by SD), then either loses barely or controversially and is set back once again. One of the most underrated fighters for sure. With his style, no one will opt for a voluntary against him.
