Have a look at these videos - is it too harsh to say RJJ is shot/has no chance?

The primary issue with Jones has been his confidence. The brutal back to back knockouts shattered his self belief, and he has been slowly crawling back. Slowly. His physical capabilities were never affected, and were never an issue. Jones is still remarkably capable for a man almost 40.

The big problem as far as fighting Calzaghe goes is the fact that Roy's weakness has been a psychological one. Joe Calzaghe is a mental juggernaut. A truly fearless, fiercely determined competitor. On top of that, Roy's tactical Achilles heel has always been intelligent sustained pressure, and to some extent southpaws.

In a weird way, because of everything Roy has gone through I think he has a better chance against Calzaghe than if he never saw Joe coming and didn't have any respect for him. Roy Jones 'the underdog' might do better. But as Roy has shown in his "comeback" fights he can freeze up and choke. I won't a make a prediction because of all the complex factors involved, but Roy obviously has the physical tools to run circles around Calzaghe. It's his head that worries me.

Roy isn't shot. He just didn't want to win those fights with tarver and glen johnson.

    A Hail Mary KO

Jones still has fast hands when he throws 8-12 real punches around. His stamina was garbage in Johnson and Tarver III. Joe is simply going to grind him down because he throws a ton of punches and Jones's defense is nothing special now that he can't dance out of the way like he used to

Ok he still has the hand speed. But he reflexs are shot so when he actually decideds to throw the punch it's to late and he's gun shy on top of it all. Oh and he doesn't have the stamina to fight for half of every round in the fight let alone the whole fight.

Total agreement. Round 5 of Tarver III, was he really that effective? Did he really throw anything that hurt Tarver? I dont think so

And in the other videos it is so obvious how flatfooted he is, his lateral movement is not there at all, the only punches he can dodge are the ones that come straight forward with his opponent standing square to him like Trinidad was doing.

Yes he did hurt Tarver. His power is still there, he can hurt opponents, but he hesitates to throw many meaningful punches cause he knows he can't dodge everything as he used to back in the day (as you said), and he doesn't want to get hit. "Gun shy", as CASH_718 put it.

I hope that Calzaghe runs into a perfectly placed counter shot. Like all have said, the hand speed is still there but the legs and stamina are not. I think he has to score a KO. He has almost no chance at a decision.

he's shot....he looks like a completely different fighter in there, his whole style was based off of his inhuman speed

but now he doesnt have inhuman speed....but he's still trying to use that same style

but at the same time.....a shot jones is still a B+ class fighter

he has a chance.....i'm pulling for him, but he'll probably lose

He definitely did hurt Tarver in that 5th round, you could see the way that Tarver was covering and backing up against those uppercuts he was fearing an onslaught, but it never really got going, Roy just didn't have the killer instinct he used to have. But he did hurt him, like he hurt Hanshaw and to a lesser extent Trinidad.

Roy can definitely still punch, that's why I'm trying to make myself have a rethink. I am aware this is possibly blind faith as my head still says Calzaghe 100%, but when I watched those videos last night I thought maybe, just maybe...

There is always, always a possibility of Roy seriously hurting Calzaghe.

    Joe:
--Has never faced someone with Jones' handspeed, and only one other figher of Roy's Pedigree (hopkins)
--Leaves himself squared up and wide open to counters when he starts windmilling.
--Has been down from the likes of lesser competition.

    Roy:
-- Has steadily been gaining endurance back (Looked gassed after he wailed on hanshaw, but that was in the 11th round of the fight, was bouncing on his toes in the final round versus Tito)
-- Is capable of fighting beautifully off the ropes (see: RD 5 Tarver/Jones III, Hanshaw, Bryant Brannon)
-- Landed 46% of his power shots vs Trinidad. Now, I know Trinidad is no Willie Pep, but Joe Calzaghe sure as hell isn't either.

    Jones has 3 main problems:

    He has a Glass Jaw

He is afraid to get hit since the second Tarver fight

He is gunshy and afraid to let his hands go for fear of getting countered and knocked out

Now I will be honest here if Jones lets his hands go and does not fight scared he can beat Calzaghe. But will he do it is the question?

Roy Jones vs Tito was an illussion, it look nice and flashy and a good dominant win, but who was he fighting.

it was a faded former heavyweight champ who could not KO the shot former welterweight champ.

Joe may be past his very peak, but he will still have enough in the tank to get past old Roy.
