.....is it just me or does anyone else think that he's just talking up that one last pay day - irrespective of a win or loss?

I read his article a few weeks ago where he spoke from the heart and said his Son didn't want him to fight anymore. He also suggested that he had one good fight left in him and that was against Danny Green.

All of a sudden he's become Mundine's next "legit" world class opponent and the guy needs to drop a weight division to contest!

I respect The Hurricane as an absolute warrior, him and JWP are two guys that just exhume that warrior status.
I understand why he's perhaps calling out Mundine for the cash but will he have it at 168?

I'd really appreciate genuine replies from guys who are close to the Hurricane.
Is he genuinely over his ailments?
Is his heart in the sport again?
Most importantly - win or lose against Mundine will he continue to fight?

He knows fighting Mundine in oz would generate his biggest payday(1million atleast) and then he can chill out on the goldy and continue commentating etc.

Train hard for 10weeks put in a decent effort for 36minutes max and get atleast a million bucks for it.

Briggs would be a lunatic not to do it..

If i had the ability to earn that kind of money right now for 3 or so months of hardwork i would jump at it.

Howmuch do you think the fighters would get in Mundine vs Briggs at supermiddle??

Say 70/30 split for the mouth.

i agree with vurtually all you both say but there is no way he gets $1m. it is a voluntary, and if you believe some people a risky fight for mundine (I believe it is a gimme for him). $150k-$200k max. I read soliman got ~ $250k for #2 and this is when he was at his peak. after adamek one he maybe could have got that sort of $ but not on lack of recent perormances.

If you're talking up a last payday you don't jeopardise it by fighting Mack or Echoles prior to potentially taking on Mundine. You fight Chong Nee or someone of that ilk. You don't talk about fighting the likes of Brahmer either.

People are concerned that he's on the downward spiral. That's understandable. By all reports his last bout wasn't his greatest performance. People thought the same thing of Greeny until he turned it all around. Briggs is more than capable of that. At 32 time is still on his side IMO.

he would get 1million through hype..

The fight would be of the same build up as Green Vs Mundine.

Mundine is a businessman(well he thinks)and he would try sell it till it has no more life left...

They would pack out the any footy field in sydney or Brisbane and the local ppv ratings would be massive.

    All that equals $$$$$$

doesn't mean briggs is entitled to it as its a voluntary defence for cumdine- not set % in that scenario! it is how generous choc wants to be. eg hamden got ~ $125k, I can't see him paying 7 times that?! or 4 times soliman?!

Agreed mate, but if Briggs only manages half of that im sure he'll make up the difference in the 2 rematches that follow

I am aware of what you are saying but no1 gives a **** or really knows who Soliman and Hamdan are outside of boxing fans and their family ofcourse..

Briggs v Mundine would be ten times bigger then both those fights.

The regular bogan aussie who hates big mouth mundine would happily pay up to watch the bout...

For godsake the ozziebattler already has his ticket booked for goldcoast to watch the bout.:yep

Thanks Mate, was hoping that someone like you would reply to this. I hope that he can turn it around, it all comes down to hunger doesn't it. I think it would be a tragedy if a guy like Briggs couldn't walk away from the sport with a world title when we see so many paper champs out there.

It would be interesting because its hard to say how well Briggs is really known. I think he has a good following in Queensland (fight would have to be there), is known outside of hard-core boxing fans and has international profile (known in the states). But geez 1 million is a lot of dough.

Paul will have a huge problem with 168.

Anybody who think he won't is flat out kidding themself.

I hope he gets it back togeather for his sake and It would be good for Aussie boxing.

I just can't see it happening with all the injuries and hard fights he has had in kick boxing and boxing, It just catches up with you.

I know its alot of dough but the Green v Mundine clash generated 3times that for each fighter(im not totally sure of figures).

Remember hearing Green got close to 3million and Mundine abit more.

All in all it would make for a great domestic bout with Briggs tenaciousness and Mundines speed/skill im not totally sure which way it would swing.

Possibly Mundine at this stage as im not sure how Briggsy is travelling these days.
