I think if we had more footage of both then going by their records they would look better than Floyd. I think Gans does. There is no real footage of prime Benny he is actually reported as better than Duran by guys who worked with both. That cant be knocked as bull****.

Tyson would find it hard to get to Tunney but he would eventually. Tunney was a crafty boxer.

Tyson is technically better than Dempsey but he has a weak mentality. Dempsey had an Iron jaw and was a great inside fighter. Tyson hates inside fighters. Dempsey would get inside Tysons head and break him down if he can survive the early Tyson aggression. Tyson also had short arms and did not like it to the body. This came from Holyfield. Dempsey could well beat Tyson even though Tyson is the tecnically superior.

I think it's been falling off since April 27, 1956. I'm sure most here would agree.

tyson is bigger, faster, stronger, hits harder, and has better defense than dempsey... i doubt he would last the early rounds with a peak tyson

    Marciano retired:zzz.
Which is about as meaningful as August 31st 1969, when he died.

Other than his family, who actually gives a s**t?

A fantastic way of summing the situation up.

No, Harry Greb was clearly, obviously the best ever.

his record determines whether or not he would be able to beat anybody?

Maybe not but there is weaker versions of Tyson Dempsey could beat. Tyson was a freak in his peak years.

So you don't agree that Canzoneri and Chocolate show no technicial deficiencies compared to the best of today?

Are you actually paying attention to this forum?

Marciano would not only defeat every heavyweight within 2 rounds, he would out-swim Phelps, out-sprint Bolt and out-chess Kasparov.

Your effort to inject some sanity into this forum is commendable... but a lost cause, Im afraid. This is the place where we - in order to maximize our idolization of historic fighters - throw common sense out the window.

I told you all, this guy is Tommo/Glover in disguise.

This is another one of those 'old b+w fighters simply cant compare to modern day monsters' threads.

I dont think boxing has evolved much.

A punch is a punch, a ko is a ko.

If boxing has evolved, why cant Malignaggi crack an egg?
why is Khans chin worse than wet toilet paper?

Floyd Mayweather is a rare stand out fighter who has excelled in his field. But the rest are leagues below him.

Seriously is Pacqiauo any different to the sluggers of the past? not really.

Where did you get this from?

Tyson could fight on the inside.

Tubbs and Ferguson both tried to fight Tyson on the inside, both were stoped.

As for Tysons body, once again it was Tubbs who said hed try that and het got ko'd in 2 for his troubles.

Regarding the Holyfield fight, Tyson walked in off balance and Holyfield threw a left hook which sent Tyson skidding, it was more because of being of balance than anything.

Dempsey aint getting into Tysons head, if anything Tyson hands Dempsey his head on a plate. You must be crazy if you believe Dempsey is simply going to weather the storm and turn thr fight round.

Nobody weathered the Tyson storm. Certainly not the way Dempsey fights.

    :think

    Bigger, Tyson.

    Faster, Tyson.

    Stronger, Dempsey.

    Hits Harder, even.

    Defence, even.

Jaw and teak toughness, defo Dempsey.

Tyson is a mid range explosive technician. Dempsey a rolling windmill (not crude and uneducated) and he was as strong as a bull on the inside. What will happen to Tyson if he gets forced to the ropes where he has no clue there at all.

I used to think Dempsey was overrated but the reports on his fighting technique and the better film reels of him clearly show an ATG fighter.

Tyson could well just blitz Dempsey in the first few rounds but Dempsey could roll punches and had a chin of Iron. Inside he would maul Tyson. Explosive aggression and an intimidating exterior does not always equate to toughness. Tyson was a bad ass but he was not the toughest heavy to grace a ring physically and mentally, that much is fact.
