Have boxing skills progressed, or have they regressed?

Thousands of trainers...how many of them worth a damn? Anyone can throw a towel over their shoulder and call themselves a trainer.
When I see a guy in a championship fight walking face-first into a jab round after round, I see a problem. And it's something I've seen all too often.

Nice logic. How did these trainers become famous? Did some guy just walk up to them and declare them so?

It implies mediocrity...which is exactly what many trainers are these days...mediocre.

Anyway, you're trolling and I should have seen this from the start.

That's true about only being allowed to do what your opponent lets you. That's true about trainers showing you what to do in certain situations but actually being in them situations numerous times and against different styles helps even more. Not all fighters past or present learn from this but the best do and advance. I've said it before, todays matchmaking for prospects is the problem. Everybody seems to be scared of putting their fighter in with someone on the way up that could give them a problem. Scared of losing that 0. Fans are a problem, you've only got to look at the British and general forums to see how casual fans see the game. If a fighter they follow has a hard fight or is knocked down heaven forbid, that's it, that's the end of them! They just can't see the big picture and managers and promoters pander to this. What you end up with is prospects having it all easy and then when they are eventually manouvered into a title shot they're found out. I see "world" titlist these days who can't change from plan a to plan b or any other plan if things aren't going right. Champions who can't box on the inside etc. "World" champions who's promoters won't let them near other "world" champions of the same weight because they're not ready for that yet.

You say this, but then you don't criticise Tommy Morrison for loosing to Michael Bentt

You can usualy get a prety good idea how good the guy they lost to was, from their resume before and after the loss.
