This catchweight fuss this weekend has got me thinking:
Have catchweights always favoured the A-side with their outcomes?
Just off the top of my head, I can't think of a fight in which the fighter who demanded the catchweight, didn't win.

Sugar Ray Leonard vs Donny LaLonde
Bernard Hopkins Vs Kelly Pavlik, Winky Wright
All done by Pacquiao and Mayweather.
    Cotto vs Geale

Some, I believe, don't count. Like when Paul Williams fought Sergio Martinez, it wasn't really benefitting or upsetting either fighter.

This is what's leading me to believe Broner is going to win tonight.

Can anyone think of fighters demanding catchweights that have backfired?

Well that's why they're mostly used, to disadvantage the B-Side.

Can't say it advantaged Fonfara even if he looked good in there.

Oscar was there for the paycheck. So yes, it favored him heavily. He knew Pac was the second biggest draw and all he had to do was dehydrate himself to make weight and collect those millions.

    Pac second biggest draw?????

    Pacquiao and Mayweather were never bigger draws than Oscar while Oscar was actively fighting... They only became PPV stars after;

    1. Oscar De La Hoya gave them the opportunity to fight him.
    2. and only after Oscar De La Hoya retired.

Wasn't the Hopkins Pavlik catchweight there for Pavlik's benefit?
Hopkins was fighting at light heavy at the time and Pavlik was the middleweight champ. They fought at 170. Hopkins won despite having to come in under his weight class.

I'm sure it was all Hopkin's idea. He also fought Winky Wright at 170 not long before.

    Whitaker - Chavez
Leonard - Hearns II if the judges had got it right.

Not a catchweight technically. But Manny vs JMM III and vs Algieri probably favored the B-side.
