I agree. Roy Jones Jr ceased being the Roy Jones Jr after the Ruiz fight. He has never got his legs back. He got his reflexes back, he got his handspeed back, his power, everything but his legs.

This is because at 34 you don't get your legs back once you lose them.

It doesn`t look that way. Most people wont give **** about his last 3 defeats, and neither do i. Roy is a living corpse in the ring today, nothing but a punching bag. He should have stopped boxing long time ago! But it doesn`t change the fact that he was one of the greatest fighter of his era, and definately an ATG

Yeah it was the 25 lbs..and in the 2nd fight, it was a lucky punch...oh wait it could also be that he was not motivated (despite Tarver humiliating/taunting him in all interviews)..wait, he deliberately lose so his father will not get credit during their 3rd fight.

    Whatever.

Jones looked every bit of his prime self against Ruiz. He may not be as fast and agile at HW as he was at SMW but that comes with going up to HW.

When I ranked Jones within top 10, I ranked based on accomplishment and H2H abililty. I took into account his perceived invincibility, he did not look to have weakness and seems he has the answer to all styles.

There are people today who rank Rocky Marciano as high as GOAT for the sole reasons that he always found a way to win and although I disagree, it is hard to argue with that statement. If Marciano has 2 losses on top of what he had accmoplished, it would have been easily out of discussion to put him anywhere on top.

Jones will not make top 10 on accomplishments only, his level of opposition is good but not great.

Aside from the Tarver and Johnson losses - the rest are generally considered past the point at which he should have retired.

    Yes, for the following reasons:

If he retired after Ruiz would he be looked upon in a greater light? Absolutley.
Is longevity importent in my ranking of an ATG? Yes.

If a fighter loses in his prime years it can have a big effect on his ATG status, but when they lose pre/past prime it dents it slightly.

Ummm. . .is RJJ an ATG? Or a mid-to-high level HOFER?

Because losses erase accomplishments? Oh wait, they don't. How about that?

This you have to fight people to be a ATG,he wasnt a very good technical and when his reflex disapeared he didnt until right hands crashed against his chin,he ran his mouth more than anything,he's very lucky he was in the right era, when you were aloud to blaintly duck opponets. As far as him being mentioned with SRR,SRL,Duran,Hearns,Hagler, and the many other ATG's get the **** out of here,he's the most overrated fighter of all time all those fighters won championships when they were past their primes and still fought on a extremely high level and was fighting way better comp at end of their careers than he ever fought,so he doesent get a vote from me because he's nowhere near a ATG.:-(

Jones wasn't past his prime when he fought Tarver? Check the dates and work out the ages of all the fighters you mentioned and compare them to Roy's age when he last won a title.

He should never be mentioned in the same breath as any of those fighters, they fought wars,he was getting ko'd by bums,a low mid HOF'mer at best, but now where near a ATG,his opposition and unwillingness to fight real fighters when he was in his prime really kills his rankings. When his reflexes disapeared it showed his below par technical skills, very, very overrated fighter.
