Yes of course, that's why they take them.

Its hard to cite examples as its hard to know when they were taking them, or what they would have been like without PEDs, etc. Maybe Peterson vs Khan is an example. Or IF (big if) Marquez is found to have been on something, it'd be as good an example as any of how they helped his power for Pac 4.

    They worked for marqueer.

Gave him the biggest win of his career after he couldn't get the job done on **** alone...

hard to tell really. i honestly believe almost every world class athelete in every sport is on a performance enhancing drug of some kind. in australia we just had a massive drug scandal break out with AFL, we seen the lance armstrong doping scandal, baseball is a sport iv never ever taken any interest in but so i hear there is a scandal brewing right now

boxing i believe is in a league of its own with other combat sports, we have weight classes for a reason we keep the fights as fairly matched as possible same gloves etc. if the steroids give you an advantage (and i suppose they must if so many athletes are running the risk and taking them) then you could compare it to loading your gloves or something equally as dangerous...

honestly the best way for all sports to function at world class level is OSDT all year round for every athlete

My observations over decades in the gym is like most young guys, they like to see rippling muscles, armor-plated pecs 'n 8-pacs in the mirror. It's says, "I'm a beast! Unbeatable! (and it catches the eye of girls at the beach)

As far as JMM's devastating KO of Pac, it was the perfect storm: Manny recklessly leaned in when he thought he could finish JMM 'n JMM caught him flush on the button with a perfect right-hand counter he never saw.

JMM didn't hit harder. He has a long history of highlight-reel KO's.

Yeah the ripping muscles count for little in boxing (so long as your not out of shape). If they did count for something you would have said Berto would have KO'd Guerrero early, for example.

It was the perfect punch, but even the knockdown in round 3 showed either Marquez's increased power or Pacquaio's decreased punch resistance. Marquez has hit Pacquaio with good punches throughout their three fights and Pacquaio barely blinked. He always had good (probably underrated power) but either through more focused training or something along the lines of PEDs, his power seemed greater than ever in the 4th Pacquaio fight.

Too bad that its too damn expencive to do it. At least belt holders should do it. I imagine a few current belt holders would get busted.

    it is hard to say..

There is so much speculation even with fighters that have tested dirty, that it is just too hard to tell, unless you knew exactly when they were or were not taking them.

The relatively few positive tests are probably just the tip of the iceberg. Like Mind Reader says, even with the positive tests the actual details are pretty sketchy. There aren't any 1,000 page dossiers on famous boxers, so a lot of what goes on is just speculation regardless of what the balance of probability suggests.

If you look at some of the most famous fighters who have either tested positive, confessed or been heavily implicated:

    Roy Jones
    James Toney
    Shane Mosley
    Evander Holyfield

...a common theme is that during their careers they were able to compete successfully across weight divisions, while maintaining speed (Jones) or relative punching power (Toney, Mosley, Holyfled).

I don't think that PEDs will dramatically improve most fighters. There are so many variables involved in a successul fighter that it is difficult to make chicken-salad from chicken-****. However, used correctly they can supplement a fighter's attributes, enable them to train harder and longer, and give them the edge over a clean fighter of similar ability.

seriously, how many fighters do you see improve after they have been busted for PED's? Practically none, PEDs give a fighter huge advantages over clean fighters, PED users are an absolute disgrace for the sport and should receive life time bans.

I was a Pacquiao fan but don't tell me he wasn't on that **** when he was wrecking the likes of Oscar, Hatton, Cotto. Look at Mosley after he got caught, look at Toney after he got caught, look at Jones after he got caught, look at Peterson after he got caught, look at Berto after he got caught.

The steroid apologists on ESB are an absolute embarrassment to this forum, sweeping their idols disgracefull cheating under the carpet as though there has been no improvement due to their favourite fighter taking PEDS.

If PEDS's don't make a difference then don't ****ing use them, don't put your entire career credibility on the line if PED'S don't improve your performance.

There should be zero forgiveness for anybody caught, get these ****ers out of boxing for good, these assholes that have been robbing clean athletes of a living with their superficial advantages - ZERO FORGIVENESS!!

Its took Ring comic till 2012 to dismiss PED cheats from their rankings - 10 years too ****ing late!!!

EVERY PED USER OUTED - SHAMED - AND FOREVER BANNED, and then we might start having a sport we can be proud about again, instead of listening to delusional fanboys preaching on about their idols, sweeping the cheating under the carpet as though it hasn't been a factor.
