    years apart from JOE Calzaghe???

Just thought I would ask the question because I believe it to be the weakest division in boxing for a 10 year period...I cant remeber 1 other P4P fighter.

A far cry from Era of Toney Benn Jones Mclellan Eubank collins Mcullum Even Reggie Johnson.

From looking it again I say JOEY C is one lucky mofo not to be around in that era.

keep playing that same record over and over again

one day people may even start listening

though luckily often the more something is repeated the easier it becomes to ignore

I would favor Joe over Toney, Benn, Mclellan, Eubank, Collins, and Mcullum.

Joe is a class act no doubt, but a prime Toney, Mcullum or Collins...Not sure about that....I do think he'd beat Benn and Eubank however.

Prime Benn and Eubank would roast Collins all day long. I rated Steve, but even he would admit that he got each of them at the perfect time.

Eubank was never really the same following the second fight with Michael Watson, and was shopworn, whilst Benn was shot to pieces, had had a lot of wars, most notably the McClellan fight, which took a great deal out of him.

I think either Benn or Eubank prime would give Calzaghe a bloody good run for his money (a faded Eubank did for a spell) but I would back Calzaghe to beat McCallum, and possibly Toney.

In another era Bernard Hopkins may have stepped up to SMW. But when offered a chance to he chose not to fight Calzaghe but to hang around at MW and wait for ODLH to get fat enough to fight him.

So, at least in that specific example, Calzaghe's prescence at the weight is a factor in what you describe.

That's bull****. Joe is a perfect example of a career sm fighter. Too big for middle, too fat at l heavy.

You think I'm saying things without any knowledge? Is this based on the fact that I've only posted a few comments? I've been watching boxing since the early 80's and I'll pass comment on what the **** I like...it's MY opinion. Why not be original and pass your own comments on the topic of the forum?

One example doesn't prove the class of the whole division historically.

It doesn't prove the class, but a lot of talent has been in the division in it's short history.

Sure it's a ******* division, but it's a ******* division that many fighters are naturally suited to.

A far cry from Era of Toney Benn Jones Mclellan Eubank collins Mcullum Even Reggie Johnson.

toney was a very short stay 168 fighter.
mccllen was a very good middle who had 1 title fight at 168 and lost
mcallum was a prime light middle
    an aging middle
an old super middle/a very past it light heavy.
    collins is overated
strong/hard working /but brute strength only got him so far v certain opponents.
reggie johnson, decked toney in toneys first defense/fought roy jones , i think he was stopped in 11 but a long time ago for me to remember.
good all around fighter unlucky 2 meet to very good champs.

jones beat 6 fighters at 168 his best being toney.

paz i remember had a car crash and moved up from lightweight to fight jones at super middle
    malinga-40 year old south african
lucas-he had a basketball match before hand
    tony thornton -journyman club fighter

    cant remember the other one.

we always look back on eras and think them stellar but besides
    jones v toney
    benn v eubank
    benn v mcclelln
toney v mccallum was intresting but not a big event.

 It was nothing to do with the fact that he's a Frank Warren fighter then? He went for the "purest" belt. The vacant WBO title against an old Eubank?
