have there ever been other pointless fights in boxing history like pascal/kovalev 2?

-Roger Rouse against Bob Foster for the title - Rouse had won 2 of his last 8 and one of the losses was a stoppage to world champ Foster in a non-title.

-Abe Simon against Joe Louis in a rematch for the title - he had given Louis a hard time before getting KO'd in the first fight, but then got his **** handed to him in 5 rounds by Lem Franklin.

-Jimmy Robertson against Roberto Duran for the title - Robertson was once good but past it and had lost 3 out of his last 4.

-Alvaro Rojas against Duran for the title - again had lost 3 out of his last 4.

-Pablo Baez against Tommy Hearns for the title - Hearns was a force of nature and had no business defending against a win some lose some fighter like Baez who had a record of something like 10-9.

Almost forgot Al McCoy and Freddie Beshore. Fought Joe Louis and Ezzard Charles respectively for the title and both had lost 3 out of their last 4.

Napoles-Cokes ll was pretty pointless...a virtual repeat of their initial contest a few months earlier.

    Barrera vs Mzonke Fana

    Juan Diaz vs Billy Irwin

    Kostya Tszyu vs Leonardo Mas

Robert Stieglitz vs Arthur Abraham II and III were both considered pointless at the times they took place but in both cases the outcomes defied the conventional wisdom going in. The Paulie Malinaggi vs Lovemore N'Dou rematch was very close to being a similar storyline.

I really don't consider Kovalev vs Pascal to be pointless actually. Pascal remains one of the best, most highly credentialed light heavyweights in the world. I'd rather see the rematch to an entertaining championship fight than a bout between Kovalev and a lower level opponent to mark time.

Ali had some meaningless challengers but after fighting Frazier and Norton 3 times each, Foreman, Shavers, Lyle and other monsters in the 70s he was allowed the odd Richard Dunn
