I was playing Fight Night Champion's story mode the other day and it got to the part where you have to fight your brother or whatever. Anyway, got me thinking about how there are often two fighters who are related to each other and in/around the same weight class, but to my knowledge have never taken any steps toward fighting each other. Obviously the Klitschko brothers, but also Anthony/Lamont Peterson, Chris Byrd and Lamon Brewster, Antonio DeMarco and Humberto Soto, Ricky/Matthew Hatton, Michael/Leon Spinks, Manny/Bobby Pacquiao, Nonito/Glen Donaire, Miguel/Jose Cotto, the Kameda brothers, Timur/Sultan Ibragimov, Saul/Rigoberto Alvarez, etc. Does anyone know if there has ever been a fight between two blood relatives (brothers, cousins, etc.) in boxing history? Or is it beyond the pale to expect two close relatives to fight each other? Would you want to watch a match between two siblings?
Was gonna mention the dad. Didn't remember who though :good Wasn't it because the son opponent didn't show up, so the fathèr climbed in to save the show?
yep, thats exacly how I heard it as well. My apologies, I always assumed it after reading about it a few times, I looked it up just now and this q/a with lovemore proves their not related, so I was wrong there: so I guess very very distant cousin:roll:
I haven't seen any... Of the mentioned ones are any good fights worth a look? Like they fought vs any other opponent, or could you tell it was family members fighting?
Juan Manuel Marquez used to beat up Rafael when he messed up his "KIDZ SUPER FUN ACCOUNTING SET!! by hasbro".
