One of the big talking points of this forum is "he ducked him and he ducked them" and the truth is one of the greatest boxers of all time Mayweather deprived us all of the Pac fight years ago at there prime. Truth is I have never seen him in a great fight like Pac has. He has cherry picked his way thus far and I hope it backfires on him. The only reason I will part money for this is to see Pacman. Bring back the days of Gatti, chico,Berrera and all the fighters with heart.
Of course we've been conned. But until the boxing fans start boycotting these substandard duckfest events, nothing will be done. Until it starts hitting the big fighter's pockets then they are not going to feel the pinch enough to change their strategy of carefully maneuvering through the rankings to avoid dangerous fights. We are lucky that there are still some old school fighters left like, thurman, pac, kovalev, hopkins and froch who are willing to put it all on the line and fight the best at any time.
Pacquiao turned the fight down not once but twice. You've drank the kool aid, when Roach himself admits it's their fault the fight didn't happen you have to believe it. I tell you the one reason the fight is happening now is timing. Everytime Pacquiao had a fight signed he would talk mayweather. He used mayweather's name to promote fights. Mayweather did the same thing, he would allude to a possible fight with PAC to promote fights. Now they realize it's now or never, both are getting older. Both ppv numbers have dropped with Pacquiao's no where near his top ppv days. It's time to cash in, and the truth is this fight probably does better numbers now then it would have back then. People have waited and waited, now it's on who's not buying or at least watching it.
Mayweather could have chosen some tougher fights but I do think some of the people he gets accused of ducking were not faced due to circumstances at the time rather than him looking to avoid them. But the Pac fight not being made when it counted does look bad. Unless he totally dominates Pac people will always have doubts that he could have beaten him a few years ago when Pac was prime. If he struggles with Pac in this up coming fight it will look very bad, people will accuse him of ducking a prime Pac and waiting until he had lost a couple of times and was KO'ed before facing him.
Im glad you said Froch. In Britain I will have to pay to watch Mayweather and Pac where as Froch v Taylor was not even shown and I would pay double just to see the final round. Long live the warriors of the sport who put it on the line all the time.
Barrera turned down Marquez before Pacquiao gave him the shot/recognition for business reasons, Morales and Hamed did the same. Tyson turned down Lewis for Holyfield for business and promotional reasons. Leonard turned down Hearns for a while for business reasons and for both Hearns and the hype/demand to build up more. Leonard turned down Hagler for a while till the right time came to make the fight. Gatti was turning down Mayweather till he was cornered into having to take the fight or lose the WBC title.... and the examples are endless. Literally, every single fighter in history had to turn down or postpone certain fights for business related reasons. Absolutely no one fought every single fighter and satisfied the public because it's impossible to do so even if every fighter had to fight every week. Remember, these guys do this for a living and having to make right business decisions is a must to secure the most amount of money to remain relevant and keep the bills in check. All this "heart" nonsense is absolute hogwash publicized by the media for certain favored/recommended fighters and the public bought into it as children buy into Santa Clause or other comical religious fairy tales.
The only way I can judge how good these two are compared to each other years ago is by the Oscar fight but he was weight drained so I still feel mugged whoevers fault it was.
Best ending to a fight ever don't you think? He needed a knockout and stopped him in the last 10 seconds :bbb:arran
Should boxing go the way of UFC then and just have the real cream at the top scar? We pay boxers wages and deserve better don't you think?
? I suggest you study up on the 2009-2010 negotiations if you really feel this way. Everyone on Team Pacquiao has since admitted publicly, as they did at the time but fanboys didn't want to believe it, that they walked away from the table because they wouldn't accept random blood testing up until fight night. Signed to fight Clottey and made announcement less than 72 hours later.
This may be true and to be honest im not the biggest fan of them both, I like Hatton,Gatti,Froch type of fighters but this is so endemic of boxing now, mayweather is acting like a pop star ****. Its fans that get robbed.
