Wlad was still 40 years old. Tyson Fury still only landed 86 punches in 12 rounds against a gun shy timid 40 year old guy who wasn't throwing punches back. Wilder is pushing 40 and has only beat a 50 year old Luis Ortiz. Derek Chisora has never been a top level guy. Dillian Whyte was knocked out by Anthony Joshua and a 40 year old Alexander Povetkin before Tyson Fury beat him. Tyson Fury has never been anything special and will never be anything special. If he beats Usyk then what? This will change something? What has Usyk done at heayweight? Barely baet a old Chisora, beat a old Chazz Witherspoon, beat Daniel Dubois a guy everybody here called a quitter who almost lost to Kevin Lerena. Then Usyk beat a mentally damaged Joshua a fighter most people here called a weak PED using body builder. If beating Joshua made you great then Andy Ruiz is a all time great for knocking out Joshua first.
No pleasing you no matter which way you cut it. Becoming undisputed isn't good enough for you? I feel sorry for your kids if you ever have them.
I keep going back to the simple question...who has Fury beaten to make such bold claims? You can only claim greatness based on who you have beaten. If I go down to the old people's home and start chinning 90 year old men does that really make me some kind of fearsome , devastating knock out artist? Of course not, because there's nothing special or difficult about that. Knocking out professional fighters who are in or around my size is more impressive, obviously...and that's my point. Who has Fury beaten to go around claiming to be such a legend? Klitschko? Ok, but, that was nearly 10 years ago and was about as interesting to watch as paint drying. Who else? Wilder? So, does one snooze fest win against Vlad and a trilogy against Wilder make you a legend? Sorry, not in my book. I don't even think Fury cements his status as genuine all time great if he beats Usyk. For me, he needs to beat Joshua, to put that to bed, and take on at least a few hungry young challengers like a real champion would. I think Fury has somehow developed this reputation without ever doing anything to really earn it.
I don't think anyone, Tyson included, can say how good Fury truly is as he rarely fully tests himself. He has good wins over Wlad and Wilder, but outside of that his resume is severely lacking. What makes it worse is that this isn't down to a lack of depth in the division. Obviously, there's Usyk, who he is finally fighting, and Joshua, but there are also many other solid boxers Fury could have fought, but he instead chose to fight easy touches who were either shot or not very good to start with. It's not just the opponents, it's the styles Fury has fought. They are either basic jab-straight right merchants like Wlad and Wilder or flat footed plodders with less than world class skill like Chisora or Whyte. These types of styles are tailor made for Fury, but I would like to see how he handles styles that trouble him more. This is why I am looking forward to the Usyk fight so much as we may finally see what Fury is truly made of as Usyk has far more to his game than Wlad, Wilder, Whyte and Chisora. Fury’s tactics against Wlad were good. He realised that Wlad doesn't like to let his hands go unless his opponent is stood still in front of him, so he gave Wlad a moving target all night long. He used similar tactics against Wilder in their first fight. The problem, though, is that when he fights exclusively on the back foot he has a very low work rate and hardly any pop on his shots. This is why the scorecards were so close when they shouldn't have been. Fury makes his opponent miss, but does not make them pay for their mistakes as much as he should. Fury gets a lot of praise for the second Wilder fight. Arguably his best performer. However, just how impressive was the performance? He pushed Wilder back from the start and beat him up on the inside, but Wilder has been pushed back by many fighters over the years and he has no inside game. Again, like the Wlad fight, he had the right game plan, so I commend him and his team for noticing the weaknesses of his opponent and implementing the right game plan to exploit these weaknesses, but it is hardly an all time great performance beating a guy up on this inside who can't fight on the inside and isn’t great at stopping opponents getting inside on him. Fury is clearly talented, and could potentially be an all time great HW, but he has to prove it. He has wins over fighters who are stylistically suited to him, so I agree to an extent when people claim that his opponents have been carefully picked and there is an element of smoke and mirrors to his career. Against Usyk, this will change. Usyk will show Fury things that he has never seen, so we may finally see just how good Fury is tonight. Personally, I think Usyk wins by decision (if the cards are fair).
If you use those narratives then no one is good. Again, Wlad was aged, but he still the best around. Fury cannot change that he wasn’t competing at the top level 8 years earlier. Also, Fury not throwing many punches is underwhelming. However, preventing Wlad from landing and throwing is impressive. Whyte is chinny. It doesn’t change the fact that he was unable to land a glove on Fury for the full fight. I don’t proclaim that Fury is great. However, I can’t claim that he’s nothing either. The man has achieved a lot side note: I cannot stand the man, and hope he loses big. Just for perspective.
Lol clearly you are a Fury fan and that is why you are defending him. No matter what you say it won't change the face that Wlad was 40 years old and Fury still couldn't dominate him and only landed 86 punches in 12 rounds. Derek Chisora isn't anything special and got destroyed by David Haye far easier than Tyson Fury ever beat Chisora and Dillian Whyte was already knocked out by Joshua and 40 year old Alexander Povetkin. Fury was never any good. He was always a hype job and will always be nothing more than a hype job.
The fact that you think that I’m a Fury fan makes me laugh. In the ‘who is the most overrated fighter’ thread, guess who I have… that’s right. Tyson Fury. I’m simply an adult. Anyhow. I guess you’re hoping for a Usyk victory. If so, I will cheer along with you from the island of Ibiza. Peace and love.
