I was sparring like once a week practicing my skills then my coach decided to step it up and brought a bigger more skilled guy to spar with me for just one round to see where i was at and to see my mistakes. He was kinda big and a lot more experienced but i didnt worry about. When the green light went on this man was making me eat shots i have never taken before. It was like a pro against an infant. He made me look pretty bad. There was times where i had my moments and had some good combinations but this guy countered me badly and outpunched me badly. When the round was over i felt so embarrassed and felt like i sucked badly. My coach told me what i did wrong and what i needed to work on but i feel a bit discouraged. I dont want to quit but i feel like i doubt myself now. My confidence kind of went down. Have any of this ever happened to one of you? Just wondering because lately what i have been thinking right now is how he schooled me so bad. I dont want to spar for 2-3 weeks so i can work on flaws. I was just wondering if any of you have experienced something similar?

oh yeah my nose is hurting like hell haha does simple ice take away the bruising?

after i had been boxing for about 2 weeks i was touch sparring with a guy without headgaurds,as its supposed to be light,i think he had been boxing about 2 years and he just tore into me,he caught me on the eye and it closed up pretty quick,he was wearing 10oz gloves too,
it didnt really discourage me though,if anything it motivated me even more,

it's happened to me. it is really a confident crusher but stick w/ it and maybe it will make u more humble. a lot of pros after they lose get so discouraged too they quit or want to quit. everybody is like that w/ everyTHING. it's the same as studying for a test for 5 days straight, then getting an F. lol

As others said, it happens to everyone, theres also someone better in the gym, thats a good thing too. You care enough to post,so you wont be quitting. Your coach did it for a reason,to learn, not just skills but heart. It seems you did alright.
I wont say "dont quit" cause i know you wont :bbb

    Keep the board informed :deal

Like the others said, it happens to everyone. I have had my ass handed to me in sparring many of times. It even happens to world champions. You can never let it get to you, because that is the nature of sports and competing. Stick with it, and keep training. Boxing isn't something you master overnight. It takes years. Sparring is for practice and to learn, there are no winners or losers in sparring. As time goes on, you will be the more seasoned boxer and be the one doing the schooling.

It happens to everybody. I'll never forget the first time I was knocked down, it wasn't in a match, but in a sparring exercise with some quiet pro who had been training forever, he was in his 30's. I was 19 years old, knocking everybody out, thought I was hot ****, got roughed up, dropped, then jabbed till my face turned red. Half of it was the punches I was being caught with, half the humiliation at being schooled in front of my buddies. I never, EVER, thought I was hot **** again. Thank god. Id have never, ever made it without that humbling.

I've been schooled quite a few times, but I use it as FUEL to my fire. I have never had somebody school me that I never went back *eventually* and proved I was around there level YET ;)
I used to do it with weightlifting all the time. I'll find sombody a litlte stronger than me, that has something I want, and I work HARD for it. Before you know it your outlifting them, your bigger than them, you have what they have/ if not more! I've taken that to sparring with me. If somebody shows me up, I think long and hard about ways to beat them, and work on it for like a week. Then, spar them again!
Use it as fuel to your fire bro. It only makes you better, and gets you to go on to the next level.

Its happened alot I mean now I dont get whipped when I box due to my experience being higher then the MMA guys I spar when its boxing. When I do Jiu-Jitsu im always getting destroye pretty much its just how it goes when your still new to the game though. For you though you now know what you need to work on but not sparring isnt a good idea bro its best to keep sparring. I hope you dont make a habit out of getting discouraged and embarrsed this **** happens man dont get down on yourself it all takes time if you wanna be a good fighter you got to work hard trust me no fighters get anywhere without hard work. Keep your head up and bust your ass to improve your boxing.

I like my kids to learn something when they are sparring and practice something they are not so good at. Sometimes you will be tested in sparring but you should not be taking a beating every time you spar. Too many beatings in the ring will break your confidence and you will regress.

Touch and isolated sparring are also good

    Kind Regards Bill

Your a f**cking idiot, you go into threads and tell people they should quit boxing:patsch ... that does not help nobody.

Theres this guy at my gym, who skill wise i would probly be better however this lad just throws punches and he hits hard. All he does is walk forward, i never wanted to spar the guy because i didn't wan't to get hurt. I thought i hope this certain lads not going tonight or i might not spar, after a week or two past i didn't spar him, at one point i even said no i'm not sparring you because i didn't want to get beat up.
Well after a few nights i thought about all the other pro boxers who made it to the top level (im not comparing myself to them) and i thought i'm sure they got beat up by someone sometime but they trainned harder and become better. so anyway i mentally tried to pupm myself up and tell myself i would beat him. next trainning session came around and i was pumped i thought just try hardest and it will be ok. I didn't do so well (to the best i could) but i got better.
This new guy came back to this gym who used to go that gym before me but he moved to another gym, hes apparently 2nd best in the midlands of england at my weight. hes only a year or two older too. i thought great if i can do well against this guy then i can see where im at. I've been sparring with him for the last couple of weeks and last trainning session wasn't to good he tagged me loads but i think soon i'll be able to take him...
The lad that i was scared of now only stays in the weightroom because he dont wanna sparr this lad lol.

Anyway point being every one gets nervous after all who likes getting beat up. Its the way you fight next time though. chances are you'll lose again and again but if you train harder in the long run you will get better, after all if your sparring someone whos a challenge then thats the only way you'll get better.
Thats the way i looked at it with the guy who i was scared of... And now im looking forward to getting beat up by this champ so i can seriously see how could i can be.:good

It happened to me 3 times in a row at one point. Nothing to be worried about.
