Yeah bro you got a valid point. Like i said i think i was just shocked because my confidence was going up because i was doing well sparring the others and then this happened so it was an eye opener. Im just training hard because i want to spar him again later on this month and see if i can be more competitive with him.
Yes thats the way to go, cause everyone comes across someone you can't beat so you work at it and you become a better fighter from it. You might lose again but then you try to get a little better against that guy everytime and hopefully if your putting in the effort and work you should do better within time. Then next time you sparr someone the chances are because you've been pushed you will find it easyier and you'd be a much better boxer.:good
happened to me not so long ago this kid 20 kgs lighter than me and 7 years younger, im 25 he's 18 but with 5 years experience boxing more than me, id been boxing for a year and thought i was doing ok, the bell rang and i got destroyed, because i was heavier than him he didnt hold back on his punches, i dont hold it against him I sparred a super heavy weight once and didnt feel like holding back...anyway i got proper messed up, and it really really affected my confidence to the point that i stopped boxing for a couple of weeks cancelled a fight i was supposed to go too, went out drinking and started smoking again....it really troubled me and to a certain extent it still does, i havent been to the gym for a month now im almost shamed to show my face there again...Im going to head back soon cause i realise that i cant go on living without boxing but as a few people have mentioned above its only when youve taken a pasting that you can find out if you have heart i guess....
i used to spar an 2 england internationals 1 a junior at 52kg tho he is now sparring with world class amateurs an pros an 1 at 60kg hus a snr n i was gettin whooped evryday more by the junior suprisingly i was 54kg at the tym tho i used to judge my improvements on it wen i first sparred them i was inexperienced but the coach thought alot of me it used to be a good thing 4 me that i only got knocked down twicein my yrs sparrin them wen i went bak 2 sparrin ppl with my experienced tho i was whoopin them until i dislocated me knee
Its definitely happened to me. Was pretty much target practise for 6 rounds but I went back and analysed what I did wrong, what I could do next time and correct as much as i could (you can never remember everything when someone's swinging trying to take your head off but at least you have a better idea of what not to do) You just need to keep at it. i think everyone doubts themselves when they get schooled (i know i didi) but it usually is someone just starting against someone with a fair bit of experience so don't worry about it too much.
happens to everybody... the best thing i can tell you is run like hell every morning, so next time you're in there with an more experience person you can dance around with get you're ass whip but hey that does mean that you aint going to catch you. but like everyone on this board said it happen to everybody.. im tell you a story about this one boy i knew... i remember when he first started boxing... he use to get his ass whipped... always left the ring with a bloody nose... but you knew he really liked boxing, i think he might have gotten beaten up in school or something and parents put him in boxing.. anyway ...i left the gym for the summer and when i came back... he was nice ... havent seen him with a bloodly nose since and his sparrs every body from j.o's to grown adults so dont quit or give up
Yes, was schooled and hard, and for a while often. My reg. sparring partner at new club had a huge edge over me....in age, experience, weight and speed. Only thing I had going for me was my height and stubbornness. That was 6 months ago and the gap has closed dramatically. We are very close now. Fighting someone better then you can be humbling, but also very productive if done properly I believe. I have learned a lot from him, and still do. Had to pay a price for it tho....that being many lumps, black eyes, and numerous skidmarks across my face and head.
too true mate, i started sparring people my level and domianted thnem which led me to beleive i was something special, until i got to spar people better than me and boy did that open my eyes....but thats the way to learn...
you spar 500 times your going to schooled a few times, just make sure you peak when you need to and if you do get schooled its in training my friend.
i love sparring in our club you spar everyone and im the only person near my weigth 52kg so im in with the bigger guys most of the time and with one of the boys its all out sparring most of the time i get whupped but i just start focussing on counter punching and getting in range and it realy pays off sparring with better fighters because you get more experiance and it toughens up your chin and the other week i had to box a guy 4kg heavier than me so i jsut thought of it as all those times sparring had payed off because i went in the ring and could shrug the boys punches of as easy as anyones and i pushed him bck and hurt him bad al because i got hammered in sparring for ages
everytime i spar becuase i have noclue how to pace myself so i always do mad good first round then 2nd 3rd 4th round i just get ****ED UP.
Well how long have you been sparring? Are you a beginner? Well if the guy went hard on you and you're a beginner then I believe the coach did a big mistake. You see if you pit a beginner against a pro in sparrng and he hits you hard that becomes discouraging and that's why most people don't practice sparring because they're afraid to get hurt and that is perfectly natural especially if you don't know how to fight. In my opinion, the guy shoudl've went from light to medium strength. You know expose your weakness on fighting especially on the guy you just spar because you have to understand everyone fights differently. They're pressurer, outside fighter, anglers, etc. See the guy you sparred with fighting method and counter it. Don't feel discouraged and try to understand from your point of view why you got hit so many times. For example, did you drop your hands when you punched, did you get tired, etc. Try to record yourself sparring so you can take it home and analyze your fighting and the person you sparred with. Focus on your game rather than your ego. I know we all like to feel good but look at it as a new skill that is getting ready to be born inside you.
