I prefer TV, ringside you can't see as well and it's a lot of trouble, costs more, way more................I did mostly PKA years ago, was at ringside, saw a fighter killed, I will never forget it.................I had 3 broken noses, a broken foot, toes, damn, worse than David Haye, broken ribs, be careful going from boxing to kickboxing...............there is a difference, you have to get used to it. Vitali was a six time kick boxing champion, both amateur and pro............plenty of sparring, etc., nothing like big screen TV..............was in Bowe's camp with Eddie Futch, sparring with Spinks Bros. in St. Louis, was with Fred Wren and Chuck Norris, Joe Louis, the kickboxer, the one who made movies..............lots of top ten fighters, some champions, etc., Big Foot Martin, Slim Jim Roberson, Rock Newman. Bowe did not look as big in person.............we did not have ringside doctors back them either..............had a bad eye injury one time, but switching from kickboxing to boxing is tricky, pick up some bad habits. I think outside the ring is better, LOL..............I think there was a person by the name of Dennis Alexio, yes, he was awesome, he was in the movie Kickboxer with Van Damme, he was heavyweight champion, fought for Showtime, then there was the Battle Of Atlanta, Joe Corely.............PKA went bankrupt for some reason, it was a very exciting sport................did well for a while...........Fred Wren and Chuck Norris were commentators for Showtime back then............It's good to watch a fight in person, or be in one, but at home with big screen HDTV is the easiest.................the work for Klitschkos was mostly at Klitschko.com, the site is not the same now, hasn't been for a long time............have my signed gloves, pictures, etc. in my gym................enjoyed writing an article for Vitali, Mayor of Kiev, will be president of Ukraine in the future. ad infinitum............oh yeah, there was a welterweight world champion I knew, PKA, worked out with him............
You should have seen when I beat up the school bully when I was 10! Got carried around on people's shoulders and everything. I even scored a few free licks of this guy's icecream!
Only Mayweather vs. Ortiz. On the card got to see Erik Morales vs. Pablo Cano epic cut, Jessie Vargas vs. Josesito Lopez close fight, Adonis Stevenson get a KO1, Anthony Crolla sweep his way to a SD, and Carson Jones get an upset win. Great experience at the MGM.
Joshua vs Klitschko at Wembley. Being on level 5 can't say the view was amazing but the atmosphere was electric. Went with a mate of mine who is as casual as it gets when it comes to boxing fans and the shock on his face when Joshua was dropped was something to truly savour.
I've not the money to see a live fight, but my sister - who's not a boxing fan at all, was in NYC the night GGG fought Geale at the MSG This would've been shortly before GGG was a well known boxing superstar so ticket prices wouldnt have been too outrageous. I mentioned it and she said she'd seen the billboards. I went into full GGG fanboy mode and told her she's GOT to go see him.... so she did! Sod's law my sis who's not the least bit interested in boxing got to see GGG, but that's the way that ol' cookie crumbles!
I've been to loads, but the best fight, best atmosphere, best night was Benn Vs McClellan. Simply incredible.
That would be intense! Did you have any idea at the time that something was really wrong with McClellan or did you find out later? That fight was before my time but of course it became part of boxings tragic lore. Watching the fight on YouTube you can see Gerald blinking excessively: knowing what we know now makes it that much worse watching
I was at the fight too. Missed a lot of the undercard as TGI Fridays are incompetent with speed of service
Went to a fight somewhere in upstate NY where there was no real big fighters of note. The main attraction was some lightweight from Kosovo i believe. Most memorable part of the whole experience were a the groups of RIDICULOUSLY HOT native american women in the crowd. All seemed to be be 5`10 like 130lbs C cups with the ass to match. Then i realize they were Puerto Rican!!! ONe of the fighters was a puerto rican hw on the undercard and his family was in the crowd. He got ko`d lol! Second fight i went to was at Foxwoods and was the Roy jones/Montell Griffin rematch. Yeah. nuff said!
Jones/Griffin 1 is about the time I was really starting to follow boxing; hbo did a big pre fight deal on Jones then he underperformed and got disqualified to boot. The rematch was the first ppv that I got as a fan and I watched by myself. That fight, with his RJ persona, made me drink the Jones ATG kool aid. I’ve since walked that back a bit but there’s no doubt that Jones in his prime was a sight to behold.
He was a sight to behold and seeing him live about 15 rows back was awe inspiring. When Roy landed that last punch i felt it in my chest. Its like when your at a club and you can feel the bass from the speakers in your chest. It was crazy! Ive been to playoff games up in Foxboro, games at the Garden and the old Boston Garden, Mets world series in 2000 and `15 and a few NCAA mens basketball tournament games but nothing compares to the energy of that fight. Absolutely insane! I cant even imagine being in vegas for a big fight but its something i definitely want to do and any boxing fan should do atleast once.
